Powell Warns Syria of Regional Isolation
Powell Warns Syria of Regional Isolation
52 minutes ago Add Politics - Reuters to My Yahoo!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) warned Syria of regional isolation and exclusion from the Iraqi market if it did not meet U.S. demands that it crack down on militant groups.

In an interview with the Israeli newspaper Maariv, released by the State Department on Friday, Powell said Syria could not yet expect better relations and cooperation with Washington.

"What we're not going to do is we are not going to do anything that would improve the relationship right now. There are things we would like to do with Syria and there are other areas of cooperation that might be open to them," he said.

Powell visited Damascus in May and asked Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to close down the offices of Palestinian militant groups, end their media operations and stop logistical support to the Lebanese guerrilla group Hizbollah.

1. From the article:
"They need, frankly, a better relationship with us to, in turn, have a better relationship with Iraq (news - web sites), which is one of Syria's largest trading partners, concessional oil and commerce. It's not happening," he <Powell> added.

So is Iraq a sovereign nation, moving towards democracy, or is it an American puppet state? Shouldn't the Iraqi people decide what types of relationships they want with their neighbors?

2. Pretty feeble stuff.
It doesn't sound like it's Syria that is going to be isolated
and in need of better relations with its neighbors.

7. Stooge is more like it.
Or "garbage waiting to be collected".

I can remember when US foreign policy tried to present
at least the image of dignity. Now it is one long
buffoon show. Dead enemies on display, fourth grade level
threats and bullying, endless unkept promises and lies. But
they have grabbed ahold of the tar-baby now in Iraq, this
bullshit won't save their asses.

6. Iraqi 'Democracy'
"warned Syria of regional isolation and exclusion from the Iraqi market "

Shouldn't the Iraqi people have a say in what is and what isn't excluded from their market? I mean, we are supposed to be setting them up with a democratic governmentt. This administration finally has control of a country that they rule completely, in every sense.

Bastards.

8. With foreign money flowing out of U.S. Bond market, and also

from the Agencies and the Stock Market, it looks like we are
experiencing a little "isolation" ourselves.
