1. Oh, I'm sorry to hear that...
I recently found out that he'd been classically trained, but found his niche in comedy. He was one of the best.

Safe passage to him.

Peace to those who loved him.

One of the best slapstick actors I've ever seen.

He's great in spoofing - he will be sorely missed.

- His lung? What is it?
- It's a internal organ responsible for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide, but that's not important right now.

RIP, Mr. Nielsen. You brought us lots of laughs.

I was just thinking about him.... How surprised everyone was during the Airplane and Naked Gun series that he could be FUNNY.... Current generations undoubtedly are surprised he was ever a serious actor. I absolutely adored Leslie Nielson and let out such a wail upon reading he had passed that I scared my precious pup.... 'Gotta go reassure her now.

RIP, Mr. Nielson. I truly will miss you. You brought great talent to your roles and great pleasure to those watching...

He was so good and seemingly natural at comedy that I forgot all about his dramatic acting career.

Every once in a while, I'll see one of his old movies, like the "Opposite Sex" with June Allyson, and I'll be expecting him to do something funny in the scene.

28. RIP Mr. Nielsen
This is a tough one to hear...always loved his Airplane movies, in particular. His uncle was actually a well-known silent, talkie, and radio actor (Jean Hersholt), and was the one who encouraged him to pursue it too. Nielsen had done dramatic roles for many years, before going into the parody and comedic work that made him wildly famous. A very funny man, with fantastic timing, and he will be very missed.

R.I.P., Frank Drebin.

Frank: The attempt on Nordberg's life left me shaken and disturbed, and all the questions kept coming up over and over again, like bubbles in a case of club soda. Who was this character in the hospital? And why was he trying to kill Nordberg? And for whom? Did Ludwig lie to me? I didn't have any proof, but somehow, I didn't entirely trust him either. Why was the 'I Luv You' not listed in Ludwig's records? And if it was, did he know about it? And if he didn't, who did? And where the hell was I?

I remembered him as a dramatic actor before he got so well known in comedy. Part of Airplane's appeal was the shock of seeing him being so funny. I think he found his area of genius. RIP Mr. Nielson. Ya done good.

What great karma to be a person whose life's work was to make people laugh and not by making fun of others but only himself.

He also did some ads for my state of WV so I like him.

95. What A Career U-Turn, RIp Leslie
It's amazing how many well known actors in America are from Canada, I didn't know that about him. You can split his career about in Half, first part a lot of serious heavies, then "Airplane" changed all that and hilarity ensued.

Loved his scene as an umpire in whatever "Naked Gun" movie it was. Thanks for all the laughs Leslie Nielson.

Edited on Mon Nov-29-10 12:29 AM by rationalcalgarian
Listened to a bio of him a few years ago. It seems had a job as a night-time DJ at a local radio station here in Calgary around 1949 and went by the name "Stand-up Stan the All Night Man". After hearing that, I wanted to meet him face-to-face, shake his hand, look him in the eye and say, "Hey! Aren't you Stan-up Stan, the All Night Man?" just to see his reaction!

Damn.... won't get the chance.

Good-bye and thank you, Mr. Nielsen!
