British troops clash with Iraqi demonstrators

LONDON, April 4 (Reuters) - British troops clashed in Amara on Sunday with Iraqis protesting against the arrest of a the aide to a radical Shi'ite cleric and the closure of a newspaper, Britain's Ministry of Defence said. "UK troops with coalition allies had to respond to a demonstration that degenerated into civil disorder", a military spokeswoman said.

There were no reports of any casualties among British soldiers during the clashes in the southeastern Iraqi town.

5. Jihad declared
According to Al-Jazeera there were Shia martyrs killed by British troops in Amara.

Al-Sadr and Mahdi army have officially declared Jihad against occupation troops. More martyrs will follow in Basra, in Baghdad, everywhere in Iraq...

6. I checked Yahoo news before logging onto DU,
and it appears that the whole country is raging. Some Spanish & Salvadoran troops have been shot. Riots, uprisings everywhere, even in formerly quiet provinces.

And so far, no word from Fallujah, where the Marines have surrounded the city and are preparing to blow the town off the map.

I wonder if this was planned ahead of Bush's election, "I was so successful in getting democracy to Iraq".
