Protester killed as Egyptian security forces fight with Copts demonstrating over the construction of a new church.
Last Modified: Nov 24 2010 11:57 GMT

Clashes erupted outside the Giza governor's office after construction of a church was halted

A demonstrator has been killed and several others injured as hundreds of Orthodox Coptic Christian protesters clashed with Egyptian police after permission for the building of a new church was refused.

Al Jazeera has learned that the Christian protester was killed after being shot by the security forces.

The riots erupted on Wednesday outside a municipal building in the Cairo suburb of Giza, after authorities halted construction of the church, claiming the local Christian community had violated a building permit.

Protersters threw stone and petrol bombs as scores of police surrounded the area and fired tear gas to break up the demonstration. A security source said at least 93 protesters were detained after a scuffle with police.

1. Oddly uncommented on.
Makes me wonder how many people even let the letters through the filter set up by their confirmation bias.

Or look at it, realize that anything they say violates an unspoken line--thereby being dangerously incorrect--and just move on.

To the point, it sounds like the Xians tried to find a way around an unreasonable, hateful, intolerant and discriminatory--yet common to the point of being nearly universal by virtue of long-standing tradition and practice--law, and were kicked in the butt.

A further example of the Problem that Must Not Be Named. With, of course, a human sacrifice attached.

3. Around here it is understood:
Any christian that complains about anything, anywhere, has no leg and gets what's coming to them because other christians, at some other time in history, did some things which were not right (so all are branded/stereotyped/etc - which is ok when you do that to groups you do not personally like).

Only people who are pure (or a minority in some fashion) can be a victim, christians (even if a minority there) have a majority some places and cannot be victims, they can only be oppressors and whatever harm comes to them is just 'pay back'.

Hate speech and stereotyping ARE good things, as long as they are directed towards certain groups. Other than that, those things are bad.

On the other hand, all religions are evil and bad and only atheists, like the chinese, are pure and good and do the right thing - a world without religion would be peaceful and lions would lay with lambs.....

Bias, it is good. Sometimes.

5. Would this be Muslims denying Christians the right to build a church?
