MPs: IRAQ CONFLICT IMPEEDED TERROR WAR

THE war against Iraq undermined the fight against international terrorism, a damning Commons report warned last night.

The Commons Foreign Affairs Committee said al-Qaeda still had large number of "foot soldiers" ready to carry out attacks on the UK.

It said Muslims worldwide had become more attracted to Osama bin Laden because of the invasion of Iraq.

And international agreements to fight terror had been made more difficult because of the unilateral actions of the US and Britain.

The all-party committee of MPs said: "The war in Iraq might in fact have impeded the war against al-Qaeda.

"It might have enhanced the appeal of al-Qaeda to Muslims living in the Gulf region and elsewhere.
