Powell admission exposes war lies: Rudd - Australia

The Federal Opposition has seized on US Secretary of State Colin Powell's concession that evidence purported to prove Iraq's weapons of mass destruction may have been wrong.

Labor's foreign affairs spokesman Kevin Rudd told Channel Seven it is further evidence Australia went to war on a lie.

"What it does is add to the fabric of how the Australian people were misled about the reasons for going to war," Mr Rudd said.

"It would be useful if the Prime Minister simply squared to the nation's television cameras and said that as far as his Government's case for going to war with Iraq is concerned, he misled the Australian people.

"He should apologise to them."
