Joe Scarborough Denies 2012 Vice President Bid Rumors
Source: Huffington Post

On Wednesday's "Morning Joe," anchor Joe Scarborough insisted that he was not looking to run for Vice President in 2012, saying he was irritated about rumors that an independent bid might be in the works with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg potentially at the top of the ticket.

He firmly denied it at the top of the show.

1. I think he's firmly full of shit.
His show has been one big campaign commercial for the last couple of years. Donny Douche brought it up this morning, with a totally nauseating love-session for Joe, playing right into everything the show (and GOP GE corporate master) have been setting up for months now. Make Joe a "centrist" common man. The reasonable one. He'll deny for a while, then say he HAD to run because that's what the fans...er, the party...wanted. He's the guy. He's the centrist. He's got his finger on the asshole, er, the pulse, of America. Don't bet on Joe NOT running, unless he actually realizes that the Dead Intern story will come back to haunt him in a big way.

14. Me too
He's practically begging for people to ask him to run. It's so obvious.

3. Who the EFF cares! I tried to tune in to the show to see his guests and he was ranting on
denying it and Deutch got into it and Mika started to chirp. I muted the show but when I tried again they were back to that topic AGAIN. I wanted to see Barbara Boxer and hear what she had to say but it was a real effort because Joe wouldn't let the subject die. He brought it up in another segment. So MJ went off my TV set...

5. Maybe if he runs.....
it'll get his face off the morning show. That is, in my opinion, something positive. I can just imagine the attack ads now if this dufus should decide to run. Kind of like the Ted Kennedy smear campaign of so long ago.

10. Publicity stunt
I'm sure its he or his producers that are stirring this pot. Just a cheap way to boost the ratings. Its preposterous to even think about it on a serious level.

11. Did anyone other than Joe hear those rumors?
He needs to try harder to separate the voices in his head from the voices of others. Why would an independent Bloomberg see in a conservative ex-Congressman talking head?

I don't think that Bloomberg will run as an independent. There are too many states where one of the parties is almost certain to win. He likely remembers that Perot and Anderson , who had the most successful third party runs in modern times got exactly ZERO electoral college votes. The best Bloomberg might get out of it is influencing the debate - and possibly throwing states to either the Republican or Democrat. It actually is impossible to know - at this point- which he would hurt more. Perot likely did not impact the result of that election - GHWB was at 33% approval - partially because of Perot's attacks. Another strong independent was Anderson in 1980. He actually might be closer in ideology to Bloomberg than Perot was.

Anderson very likely did help Reagan because he did take part of the liberal vote - but he certainly did not change the election. In Massachusetts, he got over 15% of the vote and Carter lost to Reagan by .15%. Other states where Anderson was higher than the difference are - Maine, VT, NY, DE, CT, MI, WI. It still would have been a huge landslide for Reagan even if Carter would have gotten those additional 8 states in addition to the 5 he won.

Ironically given my dislike for the electoral Congress, it likely here makes a contested election far less - unless Bloomberg were to win a block of states (or even one large state - if it kept both sides from getting the magic number. Even in that case, I doubt the election would go to House. The electors are not bound to the person who wins them (for the 2004 election one delegate maybe inadvertently said John Edwards - and that is how it remains cast. Imagine Bloomberg wins NY and Obama is leading, but not high enough, I suspect that most of the Manhattan delegates would go to Obama if they could make up the difference.

17. Yep.
They have a former rep. who just happened to have an intern die a violent death in his office.

A former columnist who left in disgrace for plagiarizing...

Anyone else with a less than sterling career on their panel of "experts"? I'm sure there are but the old brain cells are failing me ...
