British TV presenter to sue Arnold Schwarzenegger

After vanquishing killer cyborgs and medieval warriors on screen, California's film-star governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is set to face his own judgement day in an English court.

Mr Schwarzenegger, 57, will be forced to defend allegations that he made unwelcome advances towards several women including the British television presenter Anna Richardson. She is expected to file a £100,000 libel suit next week.

Ms Richardson alleges that during a pre-recorded television interview with the actor he pulled her on to his knee and squeezed her nipple.

As British court cases go, it could be the most high-profile yet, eclipsing the recent privacy battle of Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones againstHello! magazine. The couple won their High Court encounter but at a cost of £1m in legal fees and a lot of bad publicity. Other women allegedly groped by Mr Schwarzenegger are also expected to give evidence in court.

A few months ago "Governator Ale" was launched, complete with label featuring a cartoon of the former Mr Universe in a strongman pose.

But Arnold Schwarzenegger's attorneys took exception to this use of his image and production has now ceased, Portland Brewing Company has confirmed.

"You don't overexpose an asset like the governor," Mr Schwarzenegger's communications director Rob Stutzman was quoted as saying.

Will he be forced by law to resign office? Or does California allow Sexual Predators to be Governor? If he has to step down who become Governor?

The issue being heard is whether or not Schwarzenegger (or his staff) libeled her by claiming that Ms Richardson had encouraged his behaviour. Losing the case would not prove that he is a sexual predator.
