IL gubernatorial race - probably a D
Edited on Thu Nov-04-10 03:49 PM by Inuca

Quinn's slim margin of votes has grown since Tuesday's election. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Quinn has a lead of more than 19,000 votes over state Senator Bill Brady, out of more than 3.6 million ballots cast.

"I think the people of Illinois know I won the election," Quinn said Thursday, but he would not officially declare victory and he refused to call on Brady to concede, saying that was a decision for the state senator from Bloomington to make.

Brady also has said he does not plan to concede.

"We remain in an information-gathering phase to ensure we know how many ballots remain to be counted to ensure that no voter is left by the road," Brady spokeswoman Patty Schuh said.

I have also just received an email from the Quinn campaign saying "Thank You" and that "we probably won"

1. Brady's finished
He's delaying the obvious because he pulled out the primary victory by 175 votes, but it was all over when Winnebago County finished its reporting, leaving only Cook precincts, and he'd only closed the gap by 500. The Cook precincts then swelled the gap by 12,000.

No way he can make up a 20,000 vote margin in absentees and military, most of which are going to be from Cook County anyway.

Quinn is and will be governor of Illinois.

4. Yay!! (did not get much of a chance
to say it much recently :-).

I am really glad he pulled it, and I pray it stands. It's a damn small difference with over 3 million votes cast.

6. The state GOP is quietly urging him to concede.
A very dear friend of mine is on the GOP's State Central Committee, and they have urged Sen. Brady to concede, just like everyone else did who lost Tuesday night. Their fear is that he's making the GOP look like 'crybabies', even though it's just Brady who's being one....

9. Smart of Quinn not to ask Brady to concede.
It makes Brady look even more petulant and whiny.

10. Indeed!
Brady was in danger of becoming the one thing the public would despise even more than an incumbent-- a sore loser!
