McConnell tells Obama 'start listening to the electorate'
Source: McClatchy

A defiant Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell plans to give a tough speech Thursday saying that if President Barack Obama won't go along with key GOP goals, "the only way to do all these things is to put someone in the White House who won't veto any of these things.

"We can hope the president will start listening to the electorate after Tuesday's election," the Kentucky Republican plans to tell the conservative Heritage Foundation. "But we can't plan on it." Excerpts of the text were released late Wednesday night.

....

Instead, McConnell plans to say, "We can — and should — propose and vote on straight repeal, repeatedly. But we can’t expect the president to sign it. So we’ll also have to work, in the House, on denying funds for implementation, and, in the Senate, on votes against its most egregious provisions.”

The White House, he is to say, "has a choice: they can change course, or they can double down on a vision of government that the American people have roundly rejected… When the administration agrees with the American people, we will agree with the administration.

And so it begins. With one house of Congress the GOP plans to use whatever force they can muster and "vote on straight repeal, repeatedly."

2. I daresay Obama was put in office by a helluvva lot more votes
from "the electorate" than McConnell ever dreamed of getting.

Would be wonderful if "the electorate" could be allowed to have their say without the influence of the Koch billion$.

24. Won't happen until
a scandal the likes of Watergate happens. That is when we got election law reform which was gutted by the repub Supremes. Until "we the people" realize that we have lost our democracy, no change will happen.

33. That's so true; the long ago days of cooperation between the parties
is long gone. These Republicans are not moderates in any way and refuse to compromise. They want to kill off the Democrats and all social safety net programs.

Hopefully it was obvious he is talking about health care reform.

10. If they don't like the health care as it is currently set up, why can't we
Edited on Thu Nov-04-10 07:34 AM by RC
start pushing for single Payer? As in Single Payer, Universal Health Care?

If neither one of us like what we have. Make them fight 2 things, while we present something we want at the same time.

15. Reid
You know the senate Democrats will of course again elect Harry Reid as the majority leader to be the 'REAL' fighter for us liberals. McConnell will again run Reid into the ground as Harry reminds everyone that Mitch is his good friend.

25. What an embarrassment to KY!
McConnell is a liar.
The American people do not want more of the same GOP nonsense.
As long as the Democratic party operatives in DC are smart, the GOPs crap should be very helpful in the next election.
Unfortunately the next 2 years are going to be painful to watch.

30. If Obama AND McConnell listens to the electorate
1) Billionaires will be taxed, a hell of a lot more.
2) EFCA would pass.
3) DADT would pass.
4) Social Security would not be privatized.
5) There would be UNIVERSAL Health Care.
6) Troops would be out of Iraq AND Afghanistan.

That's just to mention a few.

realize Obama needs to listen to the electorate. Apparently he was deaf in 2008. Mccy never listened then and I'm sure he will not listen now because he has big corps blocking his ears drums.
