HELENA — The Ohio faction of the racist World Church of the Creator sent veiled e-mail threats to Helena artist Tim Holmes Wednesday, after learning through news articles he plans to turn thousands of the group's white supremacist books into a public art project.
The Montana Human Rights Network gave the books to Holmes and other artists after the organization purchased 4,100 of the racist publications from a Montana ‘‘creator'' who recently defected from the declining Montana faction of the church.
‘‘Let me assure you this is not going to be taken lightly,'' the e-mail warned. ‘‘We will meet you head on and put this shame to rest and preserve our honor. If you would have taken the time to read these books instead of putting nails in them, you would have grown as an artist.''
The writer only identified himself as ‘‘Bro. Snow LeCates.''
