O'Donnell threatened to sue radio station
Source: CNN

(CNN) - Christine O'Donnell, the surprise Tea Party-backed Senate candidate in Delaware, threatened to sue a local radio station if it did not turn over a videotape of an interview it conducted with her.

O'Donnell's campaign later apologized to the station for the threat, WDEL reports.

O'Donnell appeared on WDEL's "The Rick Jensen Show" Tuesday, during which she fielded several questions from listeners and the host. Upon the conclusion of the interview, an O'Donnell aide demanded video of the interview be turned over to the campaign and destroyed because such videotaping had not been previously approved.

It was then, according to WDEL, that O'Donnell herself threatened to sue the station if it did not comply with the request. WDEL also says it later fielded a phone call from O'Donnell campaign manager Matt Moran, who threatened to "crush" the station with a lawsuit if it did not agree to turn over the tape.

WDEL's attorney was soon involved and told the campaign there was nothing illegal about videotaping the interview for later use on the station's website and added that such action is protected by the First Amendment.

Upon further investigation, WDEL says O'Donnell's attorney called the station to apologize for the uproar and threat of litigation.

7. Yeah...I have to agree with O'Donnell here
Who thinks that during an interview with a radio station that you might be RECORDED or something to later play on such said radio station...I mean...did they not point out the recording equpiment there or anything?

Did the huge ass mic in her face say "YOU ARE BEING RECORDED AS YOU TALK INTO ME"? Probably not- so yeah.

Maybe she thought it was witchcraft or something- she is NOT a witch you know.

17. "Upon further investigation . . ."
Translation: A grown up got wind of the situation and had to explain that whole Constitution thingie again. Met with blank stares from the candidate and her sycophants, the grown up sighed, and said the chances of prevailing on a lawsuit were nil. More blank stares, another heavy sigh later, and the grown up had to tell the kids that a lawsuit would cost a lot of money, and the bankrollers wouldn't pay for it.

29. Christine O'Donnell's campaign threatens to "crush" WDEL-AM
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 12:20 PM by mahatmakanejeeves
Source: Radio-Info.com

Delaware Republican and Tea Party candidate Christine O'Donnell's campaign manager has threatened to sue Wilmington radio station WDEL-AM (1150) for airing an interview it did with the US Senate candidate. WDEL reports that O'Donnell appeared live on Tuesday on the Rick Jensen Show, answering his questions and those from listeners. The entire interview was also recorded for later use on the station website, along with video of the interview. However, when the interview was complete, a campaign representative demanded the station turn over all tapes to the campaign. The station refused. That prompted a call from O'Donnell's campaign manager Matt Moran, who demanded the video of the interview be turned over to the campaign immediately or be destroyed, threatening to "crush WDEL with a lawsuit" if it didn't comply with that demand. Lawyers for the O'Donnell campaign contacted lawyers for Delmarva Broadcasting-owned WDEL, who were told the station was "in compliance with all applicable laws." The campaign lawyers later apologized for the campaign manager's threats. WDEL will be airing the interview on their website, both audio and video here.

O'Donnell & WDEL Brawl - 10/28

O'Donnell & WDEL Brawl - 10/28 - Tom Taylor in his TRI radio biz newsletter tells us that Christine O’Donnell can’t push Wilmington news/talker WDEL (1150 AM) around. The Republican Senatorial candidate and Tea Party fave did a live Tuesday morning appearance with Rick Jensen, which went fine until Rick pressed for specifics about budget cuts. Things got contentious and afterwards, somebody from O'Donnell's campaign asked the station to hand over all the recordings of the interview. The Delmarva Broadcasting station refused. Then it got a different kind of ugly. O'Donnell's campaign manager Matt Moran demanded that the video of the interview be turned over to the campaign immediately or be destroyed, and he threatened to crush WDEL with a lawsuit (that's a quote). The Delmarva attorneys got in the act, and finally the O’Donnell attorneys apologized. The WDEL folks are now blasting the story all over their website. The headline? “O’Donnell campaign apologizes to WDEL.” FYI, “I am not a witch” candidate O’Donnell had appeared on WDEL back in September and didn’t object to the audio and video being posted then.....

O'Donnell camp questions WDEL video

By Chris Carl

Updated Thursday, October 28, 2010 - 1:11pm

A week after WDEL's Senate debate made national news, Christine O'Donnell was in the national spotlight again.

It comes after O'Donnell and her campaign manager threatened to sue WDEL over the release of a videotaped interview on WDEL's "Rick Jensen Show."

CNN, MSNBC, Politico, The Washington Post, The L.A.Times and many other news outlets reported the story Wednesday.

During the interview, O'Donnell snaps her fingers and beckons an aide after Jensen presses her with questions.

The WDEL site has a link to the video.
