Martha Stewart Lawyers Seek New Trial
NEW YORK (AP) - Martha Stewart's lawyers asked on Wednesday for a new trial, claiming that one of the jurors who convicted her lied about his criminal record during jury selection.

In papers filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, defense attorney Robert Morvillo accused juror Chappell Hartridge of violating his oath, lying to serve on the jury and depriving Stewart her right to a fair trial.

Stewart was convicted March 5 along with her broker, Peter

1. Good for Her and Her Lawyers. The RW'er went after Martha and
Stacked the deck of jurors who would be compliant with what they wanted.

Good!

2. They've demanded a court room with prettier drapes.
Let's not get teary eyed about the Leona Helmsley of banal home decor.

4. Why? Are juries going to stop convicting people who are clearly guilty...
...after 1/20/05?

Did anyone read the Toobin article about her in the New Yorker?

She got bad legal advice, she should have accepted the deal the government offered her, and she was clearly guilty.

5. i dunno. she seems to have completely broken the law. it was so idiotic,
too! trying to save a quarter-million while losing hundreds of millions. bizarre.

maybe she deserves another shot at it... but what about the investors that didn't cash out of her stock fast enough? how many people did she injure through this ridiculous selfish act? has she been punished enough by her losses alone? is her punishment really an example to the big boys who have caused the REAL damage to our economy and tens if not hundreds of thousands of families and retirees?

i'm torn when it comes to Martha. she's got such a mom vibe going.

7. A person's freedom will not be taken away as a result of a civil action.
This outcome could be different.

Maybe a higher court that loves Kenny will see an advantage point in another trial, 'eh?
