<SNIP>

WASHINGTON - An Army report on the ambush of the 507th Maintenance Company in Iraq (news - web sites) says fatigue, bad communications and other difficulties arising in "the fog of war" all factored into the deaths of 11 and capture of six, including still hospitalized Pfc. Jessica Lynch.

<SNIP>

The 15-page report answers some questions but leaves still under investigation parts of an incident that is perhaps the most publicized of the war — though shrouded in secrecy and the subject of numerous conflicting reports.

It makes no recommendations for discipline, rather merely lays out the series of events from the time the unit left Kuwait behind invading combat forces until the time of the incident.

My ass! That's the shit they pour down our necks until the fumes burn our eyes!

If this administration said that the sun was to rise in the east tomorrow, I'd get up to check it by eye!

3. Spin
Just out of curiousity, does anybody know who gave out that first report that Pfc Lynch "emptied her rifle..." etc.?

Really curious about who is responsible for putting out that kind of premature information.

http://edition.cnn.com/2003/US/South/07/07/marine.accident.ap/

"GREENVILLE, South Carolina (AP) -- A U.S. Marine who was part of the unit that helped rescue Army Pfc. Jessica Lynch died in a car crash on his first weekend home since returning from Iraq.

Josh Speer was killed when his car veered off the road, overturned several times and struck trees Sunday morning. The 21-year-old soldier was heading to see his fiancee.

Capt. Shawn Turner, a Marine Corps spokesman, said Speer served with the Marine unit that aided in Lynch's rescue. Turner said details of what Speer's unit did to help Lynch, the Army private captured by Iraqis, were unavailable.

Speer was wearing his seat belt, state Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Dan Marsceau said."
