Democrats delay vote on extending tax cuts
Source: AP/Houston Chronicle

Senate Democratic leaders decided Thursday to delay a vote on preserving soon-to-expire middle class tax cuts until after congressional elections in November.

President Barack Obama has made extending the cuts a priority, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid tried to forge a consensus among fellow Democrats to pass a bill before voters choose their Congress members and senators on Nov. 2.

But Reid, a Democrat from Nevada, decided to delay any vote after a meeting with other Senate Democrats failed to produce an agreement on how to proceed.

2. They ran a poll in the local paper a few days ago and
over 60% were in favor of letting the tax cuts on rich expire. That was the first time I ever saw a poll in our paper that favored the Democrats, what a spineless bunch of jerk-offs.

19. Thank you for making this point
So this is a good thing (expiration on the rich). Maybe someone is thinking strategically? It isn't playing very well now in the media, however... no surprise there.

Maybe I'll delay a vote until after the election too.

12. They've handed this to the Repukes
Who will be more than happy to write up legislation to extend the Bush tax cuts after Congress reconvenes in January, just as paychecks are shrinking.

On the other hand, I do think that all of the tax cuts should expire, the $13 a week that it will cost me is nothing compared to knowing that the rich are finally paying something approaching their fair share.

16. Who wants to defend tax cuts for the middle class?

Who wants to go back home with a record of voting for middle class tax cuts.
Why to Dem pols think we are that stupid?

Makes me want to donate to Sharon Angle just to put the bastards in their place.

17. How to convince anyone to vote Democratic now?
Independents are officially gone. All they have now is the base, and from what I can tell, we're more demoralized now than we were a couple months ago.

20. Only way a Dem can win in FL -- not tell people you're a Dem!
Alex Sink is leading Rick Scott in the governor's race, but only by not identifying herself as a Dem in any of her ads. Scott is running ads against OBAMA, the spending liberal.

In the Senate race, Rubio the Republican tea party darling is 10 points ahead.

I blame the White House for throwing us under the bus on many issues, such as the tax cuts for the middle class. They could take the Republicans in a street rumble on that issue alone. What happened to the backbones?

23. Whatever! America died in 2000 when the Supremes appointed the prez.
What do we pay Senators for? They don't do anything. Outsource the Senate to Shri Lanka.... it'll be cheaper and something might get done!

24. We have become the spineless, ball-less party of wusses. No
wonder the Rethugs run roughshod over us. We put out the welcome mat for them to do so. Reid and Obama had a perfect opportunity to make the Rethugs either defend extending the tax cuts for the most wealthy or defend blocking the extension of tax cuts for anyone else. Instead we just folded like a wet towel. What I don't understand is why all the posturing and theatrics in the weeks leading up to the latest fold. Did we think that we were going to bluff them? Disgusting.:grr: :grr: :nuke:

25. Dems have lost their nerve....
This makes them appear spineless and weak, just what Dems needed about a month out from election day.

Afraid to vote for a tax cut for middle class and a tax increase for the wealthy? What exactly does this party stand for anyway these days?

This stuff demoralizes the base....Just great.
