BREAKING: RAHM may be leaving WH in October

On right now.
- - - - -

Washington (CNN) -- There is now a good chance that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel will step down from his post as early as October to focus on running for mayor of Chicago, according to two people close to Emanuel.

One person close to Emanuel added that highly respected White House Deputy Chief of Staff Pete Rouse is the favorite to take over on a temporary basis to give President Barack Obama more time to find a long-term replacement. But other people close to the situation said it is too early to determine who will replace Emanuel in the short term or the long term because the process is so fluid at this point. (snip)

4. Obama's ship is getting evacuated a bit early....
... by Rahm. I wonder if Rahm is going to be out of the country when election results are come out in Nov of this year. I wonder why he is announcing this before the Nov. election.

14. You are right here is the game plan:
anyway, the second Rahm resigns, a high profile progressive Chicagoan should announce a primary challenge. DU should support this challenger for Chicago's sake.

22. There are no primaries for Chicago mayor.
There will be an election in February and if no one gets 51% there will be a run off between the top two in April. In the February election there may be as many as 10-12 candidates running.

47. Dean should be an advisor
He's got a following of his own that pays attention when he talks. He would argue to defend Obama moreso than any of the clowns that now surround the President.

Nobody in the country pays attention to Rahm or Axelrod other than in D.C...

i actually wouldn't mind having him for mayor. the most important thing for the office is to be un-bully-able. rahm has that.

I hope against hope that even while the WH postures itself as impervious to criticism from the base, someone there realizes how much damage Rahm has done.

24. Two years too late...
As for Pete Rouse: "Pete Rouse is the Outsider's Insider, a fixer steeped in the ways of a Washington that Obama has been both eager to learn and quick to publicly condemn"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/26/AR2007082601446.html

"Occasionally called the 101st senator during his time on Capitol Hill, Rouse began working in the House in 1973, and has a large network of friends in high places"

Can you say "business as usual" children?

25. I can't wait!
I just got my new voters card yesterday after moving from Obama's old district(1st con.) to Rahm's old disrict (5th con.) and cannot wait to work against his mayoral candidacy! I am glad he is running for mayor as it gets him out of the white house/Washington. This is going to be one crazy mayoral contest here!

30. Hip Hip Horray!
This is the best news I've heard all day. I want Emmanuel OUT
of the White House. He's helped to ruin this administration,
with all his back room deals with the corporations. Did he
forget WHO got Obama elected in the first place?

But wait is he coming back to Chicago to run for MAYOR?
Hopefully some Fortune 500 will think he's a great asset and
SAVE Chicago from this guy.

We DON'T WANT HIM here in Chicago. PLEASE SOMEONE, TAKE
EMMANUEL OFF OUR HANDS.
