White House on Defensive Over Intelligence
Edited on Wed Jul-09-03 01:49 PM by Skinner
SNIP

On Tuesday, the administration's use of that intelligence entered the presidential election debate.

Sen. Bob Graham of Florida, a candidate for the Democratic nomination, called for a broad inquiry into the intelligence available to the administration as it prepared for war. Rep. Richard A. Gephardt of Missouri, another Democratic hopeful, agreed, saying, "This continued recklessness represents a failure of presidential leadership."

And Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), joining the call for an investigation, said: "It's bad enough that such a glaring blunder became part of the president's case for war. It's far worse if the case for war was made by deliberate deception We cannot risk American lives based on shoddy intelligence or outright lies."

For a second day, the White House acknowledged that Bush's speech should not have referred to the British report, which involved uranium from Niger.

Other intelligence reports supported the idea that Hussein had sought to obtain uranium from somewhere in Africa, the White House said, while noting that those reports were not sufficiently reliable to be included in a presidential speech.

2. "Read My Lips: I did NOT have Uranium from THAT NIGER!!!"
We have got to keep hammering on this.

Jon Stewart: Where ARE you?

This is Bush's BIG LIE. Kennedy has it right when he says we should not have gone to war based on pResdient Bush's LIES!!!

He LIED to the American people so we copuld go to war.

Where is that old Nazi quote about how easy it is to get people to go to war? We need it NOW.

This is a seriously impeachble offense and I am beginning to like the sound of President Hastert. Cheney is responsible too!!!

8. Nazi quote
At your service:

Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

3. I have called
several Senators who are pushing for a full investigation into pre-war intell. and I told them to keep up the good work. I urge everyone here to do the same, get friends and family to call as well. Senators Levin, Graham, Gephardt and Kennedy need to hear from you all. Anyone else I should call?

6. Congressional investigation
On C-Span last night Congressmen Neil Abercrombie, William Delahunt, and a couple of others had a colloquay on the House floor for several hours. These guys are telling it like it is, bringing up all the lies told by this administration to be included in the record. Abercrombie (Hawaii) said he would stand on the floor every night and push for a full investigation until the end of time, if necessary. I felt proud of these guys and a little hope that this issue will not die until the truth outs. Perhaps we should write Congressmen Abercrombie and Delahunt and encourage them.

10. You damn skippy they're defensive.
Having dug themselves into this hole, all they can do is hide in it as long as folks on our side keep shelling it. (And if they ever stop shelling, you'll know the paranoids were right and the party is fatally compromised. This is the battle, this is where we stand, this is what will break them.)

I'm reminded of a William Pitt's The Long Kiss Goodnight, on the election theft:
You wanted it, George. You wanted it so very badly that you did all these things, and allowed all these things to transpire in your name. You wanted it, and now you have it. How does it taste?
Just like the election, George and his buddies wanted that sweet Iraqi crude under American control. They wanted the thick stack of reconstruction contracts to give them a fresh supply of juicy gifts to pay back their corporate cronies. They wanted the victory parades and laurels to complete the image begun after 9/11 of GWB as a "wartime President", a 21st century FDR, an American Winston Churchill. They wanted it all so bad, and they couldn't wait for it to come on its own -- or even worse, chance it not coming at all.

So they just made it all up. And now, looking over the battlements, it appears that Birnam Wood is marching. Good luck, boys.
We come for you, George. You wanted it so badly that you took it, and now you must face us. We are legion. There shall be a reckoning, George. Woe unto you because of it. As God is my witness, there shall be a reckoning.
Let's pray to Bob there is. :grr:
