Obama: Emanuel would be 'terrific' Chicago mayor
Source: Associated Press

President Barack Obama says his chief of staff would be a terrific Chicago mayor, but he expects Rahm Emanuel to hold off on deciding whether to enter the race until after the midterm elections.

Emanuel has long expressed interest in the post. Then longtime Mayor Richard M. Daley announced unexpectedly this week that he wouldn't seek a seventh term, setting off a wide-open race to lead the nation's third-largest city.

Obama told ABC's "Good Morning America" that Emanuel was busy at the White House right now. The economy remains anemic and jobs scarce, and Democrats are scrambling to hold onto their majorities in the House and Senate with polls favoring Republicans in the Nov. 2 election.

"My expectation is, he'd make a decision after these midterm elections," Obama said. "He knows that we've got a lot of work to do. But I think he'd be a terrific mayor."

2. Don't make him wait
Let him get started now. And no time like the present for someone new to get started in the White House. I hear Dean is looking for work.

And some DU'ers still hope that Obama will change...???? Or bring change...????

The only thing that might change is the attitude of the progressives. But that would only work if Obama got rid of his left-dissing DLC gatekeeper BEFORE Nov 4.

13. He can run but I just can't see him winning.
It's not like Chicago is just sitting there waiting for someone outside the trenches to swoop in and take over.

17. One of the problems here in Chicago is the fact that
many, many Dem pols here are DINO's. We have quite a few right-wing yuppies here who call themselves Dems to get votes. It's a Dem town, as far as the voters go.

With all due respect to the Rahm haters, he was my Rep. when he was in Congress, and he did good things. I know him. He actually IS the pitbull so many pols pretend to be.

18. All valid points, but what I'm saying is that here in Chicago there are LOTS of...
...of ambitious, well-connected politicians already here who'd love to sit in the big chair. They're not sitting around hoping for a messiah to descend from the skies and lead them and they're not going to step aside without a bare-knuckle primary fight if one, in the form of Rahm or anyone else, drops in.
