DCCC Goes Negative, Starting With Anti-Duffy Ad
Source: AP, Huffington Post

WASHINGTON — Democrats' House campaign committee is starting its first advertising blitz of the fall election cycle Tuesday with a TV spot hammering Wisconsin GOP candidate Sean Duffy, one of several Republicans who are threatening to wrest an open Democratic seat.

The ad charges that Duffy, running for the Republican nomination to succeed retiring Rep. David Obey, favors privatizing Social Security. It's the first salvo in what promises to be a series of highly negative ads by Democrats as they fight an uphill battle to keep control of the House in a toxic political environment.

The party's decision to air it before Labor Day reflects what strategists say privately is a calculated tactic in key districts: Blast Republican candidates early in attempts to disqualify them in voters' eyes before they can make a case for themselves.

"Remember the crash?" an announcer asks over a sinister soundtrack in the ad, which intersperses images of worried-looking women and senior citizens with Duffy's face. It says people could have lost 40 percent of their retirement benefits if Social Security had been invested in the stock market.

7. I felt the same
I was on the fence about the dems not getting out there and fighting back but then i started thinking. Maybe they are letting the GOP blow their wad in the early primaries as they fight among themselves. Our money is best spent now, when we are supposed to be hearing the GOP "Plan" in September (a great reason to hang on to resources until that comes out and then hit it hard), and now that we know which GOP will be challenging the dems, personalize the ads to expose the truth about the GOP candidates beliefs, where their funding is coming from, and what they voted for and against. Also what lobbists are they aligned with and are they getting money from them? How much government stimulus did they take? So many questions that can expose them for the hypocrites and liars that they are.

Face it, they have more money to spend on the attack ads. We have to be smarter and work on exposing lies and getting voters to the poles.

And then when we make it, our congressmen must never make this mistake again.

9. Here's the ad. But if you ask me it's rather lame.

It lacks the passion and melodrama of GOP attacks. Democrats are still bringing a knife to a gunfight. Maybe they've sharpened the knife a little bit. That's about it. Compare it to GOP attacks and you see how they get everybody convinced that the world will end by Tuesday if you vote Democratic. We still don't see the kind of ad Johnson ran against Goldwater when Goldwater advocated nuking Vietnam -----

It's still "forbidden" for Democrats to really go for the jugular.
