2. Their job is to de-escalate.
The video shows an upset guy on the phone not interfering with police when a cop comes up to him and just starts beating the shit out of him while he doesn't seem to resist at all. It made me sick to my stomach, especially when the guy is put into the car and the cop repeatedly slams the door on his foot/ankle. This guy needs to be compensated well by the city.

4. And years and years ago the cop on the beat used to be admired in some cities/towns, now they
are often feared... because of crap like this.

6. Was it that long ago? I didn't realize I was that old.
When I saw the 23mph speed limit signs I knew it was going wrong.

10. Where I grew up years ago they used to have a 4 mph speed limit just as
you approached the center of town. I'm serious. The locals knew about the speed trap but the out of stater's that frequented the area didn't. Some years later it was changed to 35mph like the rest of the road.

17. Yeah, it's gotten pretty bad. I always felt during the Bush years cops felt more
empowered and then Obama carried on the same with the patriot act kept in tact. It's wouldn't take much to swing this to a police state... the psychs are there IMO!

7. These two thugs belong in jail
3-6 months to cool their heels and think about it would probably do.

9. They would just be replaced by like minded individuals.
Have to make a cultural change at a much higher level.

13. Wow Denver's police seems to have some real problem with excessive force and brutality
My coworker was arrested the other day for absolutely no good reason, along with a girlfriend. They had to spend an entire day in jail because they couldn't get in touch with anyone with a landline (office phones wouldn't work because the phone had to take collect calls). Basically they took him on bullshit charges.

15. Did he take a swing at the cops?
Dude, I'm sorry. He took a swing at the cops after they came at him after he held up what the biased story in the link says was a camera. There is obviously a discussion before that. You don't take a swing at the cops. I don't know if the cops were right or wrong, but you don't take a swing at cops. I'll reserve judgment on this until I get both sides.

19. Then operating procedure is to use enough force to subdue
not pummel the guy.

Officers are trained in techniques in taking untrained combatants down. You don't beat on a man.

Or zap a black teacher repeatedly with a taser, or a grandmother in a bed with her oxygen tank attached.

But, I guess having a badge excuses intelligence and decency.
