Republican Party Only Winning Key 2010 Poll In Southern States
Source: Huffington Post

Findings released in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll suggest that the Republican Party is very much a Southern regional white party in terms of the demographics of its supporters.

MSNBC relays the numbers: The GOP has a HUGE generic-ballot edge in the South (52%-31%), but it doesn't lead anywhere else. In the Northeast, Dems have a 55%-30% edge; in the Midwest, they lead 49%-38%; and in the West, it's 44%-43%.

MSNBC notes that many of the races in which Republicans stand to make electoral gains are taking place in the South "where you have whiter and older voters," or in congressional districts with Southern-like constituencies.

Earlier this year, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele raised eyebrows when he suggested the GOP for decades has pursued a "'Southern Strategy' that alienated many minority voters by focusing on the white male vote in the South."

1. Some stupid poll tho is trying to say Angle has
pulled even with Reid and might pass him. What nut took that one. And what nuts responded to the poll. I know NV is kinda wacky, but there is no way in hell the people there would elect Angle. Course we always have to watch electronic voting machines.

3. It wasn't a "stupid poll"
It was Mason Dixon... the single best national polling firm at state-level races.

And it's only "pulled even" if you're including the margin of error.

That having been said, however, there hasn't really been a single poll that hasn't shown Reid in serious trouble. He has yet to top 50%.

In fact... were the election held today, he would likely lose. What HAS changed is that the selection of Angle makes the race competitive again when it used to look like he was going to get creamed.

4. Very true, and we know the 'Baggers are going to be out in full force
It is interesting to see this poll though -- shows that GOTV efforts can really pay off.

5. This is Not Shocking News...
No surprise here at all. The South has been heavily Republican ever since all the Civil Rights stuff came down. If you took away the African-American votes in that part of the country it would be just like Oklahoma!

No way a Democrat wins a true Southern state in the future. You know "them there liberals are taking away our freedoms, our religion and they don't love America like we do down here in the South." There are some Democrats who will win in some areas but they're conservative or they have a heavily-populated African-American area they might represent.

Let's face it, the Rethugs stoke fear among these people and they drink/eat it up. I bet you Fox News gets ratings off the charts down there in Dixie. You know the lowest common denominator.
