LONDON, March 28 (Reuters) - One British civilian and one Canadian were killed in an attack in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Sunday, officials in Canada and Britain said. snip

The bodies of two men, wearing blue flak jackets, lay in the road beside their burned-out vehicle, a white four-wheel drive, for an hour after the attack in an eastern part of the city.

"I can confirm that one British national was killed in Mosul," a foreign office spokesman in London said. "I can't give any further details until the next of kin have been informed.

A spokesman at Canada's foreign affairs ministry in Ottawa said a Canadian had been killed in the incident, but gave no further details.

1. The AP referred to those killed as "foreigners" in the headline
I wonder how Britons and Canadiens feel about that label. I mean, as far as the idiot captive media audience is concerned, foreigner probably means Iraqi. I love our liberal press.

2. I believe a couple of Finns involved in this project were killed also
That was earlier this week.

"Witnesses said the men were civilians working at the Mosul East power station and were on their way to the plant in a convoy of two cars when they came under fire from attackers with AK-47s. One vehicle was hit."

This seems like a particularly dangerous place to be, and a particularly dangerous project to work on. I wonder if it is critical for getting the oil flowing in the north, and thus of great strategic importance to both sides. These civilians must be getting paid a lot to risk their life like this.
