Poll shows California governor's race still tight
Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - The campaign for California governor, pitting Democrat Jerry Brown against Republican Meg Whitman, remains essentially a dead heat three months before the November election, according to a poll released on Friday.

The Rasmussen Reports survey of likely California voters found Brown, the state's attorney general, leading former eBay CEO Whitman 43 percent to 41 percent, within its margin of error of plus or minus four points.

Who would have thought that California might elect a Republican?

"17.2 million of the 23.4 million eligible voters in the state were registered to vote: 45% as Democrats, 31% as Republicans, 20% as independents, and 4% with other parties." http://www.ppic.org/content/pubs/jtf/JTF_LikelyVotersJTF.pdf

Liberals have almost one in three votes in California, more than 50% higher than nationwide. Independents are half as common as they are nationwide.

16. Jerry Brown is playing this perfectly. Frugal Brown against big-spending Whitman
Jerry Brown is brining on what it takes to win come election day. He is showing the voters that California is strapped for cash and does not need Whitman. She is a big spender, has no Government experience, and will just plow up the works with her right wing fundamentalist polices in liberal California.

Go for it Jerry! It looks like you have this one in the bag.

10. You made it sound like he's running for office now

And he's not stupid enough to run for office in CA ever.

Do you know what his approval rating in the state is?

14. 23%, Brown left with 43%

This guy believes in himself. Who could beat him in the primary?

Feinstein runs at about a 50% approval rating and would be expected to beat any Republican, unless unemployment keeps rising.

8. As I've said before, summer polls in California are worthless

No one's paying any attention to the races.

That's why Brown hasn't started spending any money yet. Whitman's money was wasted.

13. From Norcal the view is (always) sunnier..........
Right here on the ground and exposed to Whitman's barrage of ads, which is constant, I think her money has bought her what she deserves. Contempt. Brown's best strategy may be to start his campaign never, and be elected as a relief. One of Whitman's ads starts out "You've seen this attack ad by Brown........". Uh uh. Never seen it. Seen Meg's rebuttal a hundred times. Mrs. Harsh, beware, California is easily bored.

20. And Massachusetts gave us the Brown turd and many Republican Governors, including Romney.
No state has a perfect Democratic record in every possible office. Not since the Solid South was Democratic, anyway. We can never be complacent.

22. It is about estimating who will actually vote
This is what Rasmussen does best. This skill is why Rasmussen was the most accurate on Obama's election.

23. You're falling into his bag of tricks
He juices his polls for the Republican during the campaign season to drive the media coverage to favor the Republican. Then in the last few days of the campaign, he sees to it that his final polls are more in line with the real pollsters because the final polls taken are the ones that are recorded for history to match the pollsters accuracy.
