US Border Security Bill skews field for Indian IT cos

NEW DELHI: IT-BPO industry body Nasscom today criticised the US's Border Security Bill, which will be funded by increasing the fees for H-1B and L-1 visas, saying the move will "unfairly reduce competitiveness of Indian firms", as they will have to pay an additional USD 250 million per year.

"While we understand the need for the US to protect its South-West borders, it seems that the funding proposed by this bill would be from the Indian IT sector," Nasscom said in a statement.

The US Senate has passed a USD 600 million Border Security Bill to increase security along the US-Mexico border. The enhanced security will be funded by increasing fees for H-1B and L-1 visa applications.

1. Why not double the fee and devote the money to SSI? That would help both the FAUX SSI deficit and
help employ more Americans.

6. Fuck them and their statements...

The fees for H-1B and L-1 visas are paid for by the sponsoring company. This would be the US company bringing in the visa employees. So, how the hell does this have any effect on cost for anything labeled as an "Indian firm"? It's the US company picking up the tab.

8. Could do with a little less hate...
Anyways, You definitely support increasing Indian import duties to American industries then? I'd support that too. This whole GATT, Globalization, free trade thingy has been devastating to the weak economies of the developing world. Its just a way for Mega Corporations to make money by destroying small businesses. Its funny when some people scream at H1B workers taking their jobs and push for free trade at the same time. Its the height of hypocrisy.

9. Fuck free trade too. It's free for some and not for others.

It's not "free". I pay export duty euro taxes when I purchase parts from Germany and Italy.
