(US Marshals) Agency stored body images from Florida courthouse
Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) -- The U.S. Marshals Service is confirming that it has stored more than 35,000 "whole body" images of people who had entered a U.S. courthouse in Orlando, Florida.

The images captured by millimeter wave technology are more ghost-like and far less detailed than those produced by "backscatter" machines commonly used by the Transportation Security Administration at airports nationwide.

But the Electronic Privacy Information Center, a privacy rights group that obtained the Marshals Service photos, said the disclosure shows that body imaging machines can store intrusive images of people's bodies and that the federal government will store images in the absence of strong judicial or legislative restraints.

The center and other privacy groups filed suit against the TSA this year, asking the court to bar it from using body imagers at airports.

The more I read about it, less I want to fly anymore.. Better to drive, or to take a train or buss, than to discover that my image is eletronic saved, in any form or shape... Not that my body is something to look at in any cases, but I l like my privacy. And if I have to drive a couple of days or take a train to go where I want to go, so be it.. Better than this...

And I love to fly, as I like the different aircrafts.... But I have to say I have not been flying since 2001, and at the look at it, I doubt I wil fly anytime soon.....

On another note, this is happening in the US of all places... I would suspect that it could happend in places like Russia, who have a LONG tradition of keeping tabs of where their own are all the time.. But this is happending in US... Last time I was there, the custom official just looked at my pastport and wished me a nice day, and welcome to US (I was really suprised, as other places i had been to, discovered the opposite):.. Now Im not even sure I would be welcomed in even tho my paperwork are in the clear...

6. Another source shows how the TSA demands storage and networking for these

...This follows an earlier disclosure (PDF) by the TSA that it requires all airport body scanners it purchases to be able to store and transmit images for "testing, training, and evaluation purposes." The agency says, however, that those capabilities are not normally activated when the devices are installed at airports...

....William Bordley, an associate general counsel with the Marshals Service, acknowledged in the letter that "approximately 35,314 images...have been stored on the Brijot Gen2 machine" used in the Orlando, Fla. federal courthouse. In addition, Bordley wrote, a Millivision machine was tested in the Washington, D.C. federal courthouse but it was sent back to the manufacturer, which now apparently possesses the image database...

Here's the spec sheet from the TSA (in *.pdf). Read it for yourself:

PS: A friend of mine is a lawyer in that area. I can't imagine she's too thrilled about this...

16. Of course they did.
I don't know if there are any security staff here on DU, but my personal experience is that just about every single security staff I ever temped for has a "best of" tape squirreled away somewhere. Like many other humans, security staff have a predilection for sex and other prurient topics, so any technology that even hints at a nude human form is bound to be misused. Unlike most other humans, their technology offers them an almost uninterrupted supply of such things from which to choose.

That's one reason why Americans are lied to practically from birth about their so-called "right to privacy," which doesn't exist and never did. Truth is, we don't have any rights that aren't trod upon every single day, because it would take daily vigilance to prevent that.
