Caroline Giuliani ARRESTED: Rudy Giuliani's Daughter Caught Shoplifting
Source: Huffington Post

Caroline Giuliani, daughter of former mayor Rudolph Giuliani, was arrested today for shoplifting from an Upper East Side beauty store.

The 20-year-old was allegedly caught stealing about $100 worth of makeup from a Sephora store on 86th Street and Lexington Avenue around 2 pm.

Caroline and her brother, Andrew, are the children from Giuliani's marriage to former television host Donna Hanover. That union ended in a bitter divorce that played out in the New York tabloids.

According to the New York Post, when store managers discovered who the suspect was, "several high-ranking officers were dispatched to the store, an unusual measure for a shoplifting charge."

43. Stole 5 items
The bust happened at a store just blocks away from the E. 86th Street home she shares with her mother Donna Hanover, the former television, the city’s former First Lady before her bitter split from the tough-on-crime mayor.

I like the tough on crime part where her scum-bag father used to jail for up to 30 days homeless men for vagrancy

9. You have to remember her childhood and how messed up it was
And that people who do this usually have some type of issues they need to deal with. She's only 20-years-old.

Her father sucks, but I have never heard anything bad about her, and I know she was an Obama supporter during the GE.

31. OK, why does her politics matter???
As a parent to teenagers I think her rich little ass should be kicked and she doesn't deserve any excuses for taking something that wasn't hers.
She is not a starving child with no food in the house. That is entirely different.

34. Because people in both threads are making it matter
By mentioning her stupid Dad and thinking she's a chip off the old block.

She fits alot of the behaviors associated with kleptomania, too.

I can't get too worked up about $100 in shoplifted goods. It something she shouldn't have done, but the amount of vitriol targeted at her is way out of proportion to the offense.

What does her father's money have to do with anything?

38. It shouldn't.
My point is that she should know better and shouldn't be treated any worse or any better than anyone else who got caught stealing makeup in a store.

Edited on Wed Aug-04-10 05:27 PM by LibDemAlways
maybe one blush. It's a way overpriced store. I do not in any way excuse what she did. I have no tolerance for shoplifting. However, if what she took totaled $100.00 at the Sephora register, it wasn't a big heist and certainly not worth the risk of being caught. Sounds as though this was a cry for attention and/or help.

18. The need at work is not a need for 'stuff'.
She's rich. She could have paid for the stuff with probably any one of a dozen cards in her purse.

The need might be for attention. Or, a need to be anonymous - remember, she probably didn't plan on getting caught, and shoplifting by a celeb, or a celeb's kid, could be a way of saying to herself "I am invisible - I'm just like everybody else". Just ask Wynona Ryder.

The real need is for therapy.

19. Nothing but attention, attachment, protection probably
Lots of unhappy wealthy folks shoplift. Usually with a pocketful of money and don't find out why until the court orders them into therapy (rather than jail) as they would someone of lesser means.

29. It's true. People tend to be forgiving of behavior when it's related to someone they like
I remember when Patrick Kennedy crashed his car in DC and the police gave him no sobriety test and a ride home. It seems most DUers just hoped he "got the help he needed".

26. Most of us do NOT shop lift, and certainly NOT at 20 years old!
Edited on Wed Aug-04-10 06:15 PM by activa8tr
I have no idea what kind of "most of us" you are referring to.

No one of the five children, (now adults) in my family EVER shop lifted, at 10 at 15 or at 20!

We are not as rich a family as Rudy's family is... (I understand he makes lots of $ from speaking, in the 100's of thousands if not millions, plus book and other fees).

No one needs to shop lift at 20 years of age. That is NOT a "child" that is an adult. Some 20 year old adults have 2 or 3 kids OF THEIR OWN to take care of at that stage in their life.

Shop lifting makeup products at 20, yeah, that person is in a deep deep psychological wasteland, and need rescuing!

And throw in a good measure of punishment with the rescue, too. I'd say `10 days in jail will cure that habit.

Arrested and released a few hours later.
When Sephora found out who she was, they declined to press charges.
Giuliani asks press to "respect their privacy".

Apparently "law and order" applies only to the poor in Giuliani's world of hypocrisy.

I've known people in NYC who spent days in the Tombs for less.

47. I am giving this an unrec because it is about a politician's kid and not the politician
Politician's kids deserve comment only when the actual kid inserts themselves into the public eye. If their parents use them for political purposes (like Lady Blah Blah, for example), the kids, in my view, should remain out of bounds. Similarly, when the actual kid inserts him or herself into the mix, then they become fair game. John Kerry's daughters, now Chelsea after campaigning for Mom, the Gore daughters. Gore's son, on the other hand, is in the former category.
