Marceaux has lengthy Criminal Court appearance record
Source: Chattanooga Times Free Press

NASHVILLE — Basil Marceaux Sr., the Chattanooga Republican candidate for governor whose unconventional political views have attracted national attention, has been in and out of Hamilton County Criminal Court since 1993, county records show.

Many of the 19 cases involved misdemeanor traffic infractions. Marceaux, 57, was found not guilty by reason of insanity on July 25, 2005, in seven cases involving mostly traffic offenses ranging from driving an unregistered vehicle to failing to have insurance, according to court records.

In previous years, he had been found guilty in a case involving vandalism and possession of drug paraphernalia. He once was arrested for theft, records show.

14. I saw one of his spots last night, don't remember whether it was on Keithie or Rachel.
He was adamant that everyone has the right to own a gun, regardless of mental illness or criminal record. Now we know why.

4. The guy is batshit crazy...
"He became an instant viral hit after appearing in a parade of gubernatorial candidates’ videos on WSVM-TV in Nashville in late July.

The Chattanooga resident said on the Nashville news station that he believes all citizens should carry guns."
.
.
.
"But would people be required to bear arms? Would they have to have guns?” Kimmel asked.

"If they didn’t have one, they couldn’t represent themselves, protect themselves against the government, so I’ll probably fine them $10 if they (don’t have a gun),” Marceaux replied.

"Little investigators on the street with no power” would be the ones issuing the fines, he said.

15. He also has my vote.

Here in TN, until Basil surfaced, we had three R goobernatorial candidates (the big-booted rooster, the rabid hamster and the church lady) and one D candidate (Big Daddy Junior, the son of a former D governor who would have put Burl Ives to shame in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof") to choose from for our next governor. It was not a pretty sight.

But now there is Basil. As wild as it seems, if his presence on the ticket stimulates many Ds to vote in this year's R primary and encourages many people of all political persuasions who had planned to sit out the primary to go ahead and vote for the "tasty choice", well then ...

we just might have our pay-back for Alvin Greene. And be immuned from any and all state laws, while we drive on our law-less highways, carrying our state-mandated guns.

One can only hope .... for a theatre of the absurd that is this bizarre that it might wake up a lot of folks here in the Orange State to the need to count votes as they are cast. And to respect the process overall.

Right now, there's little reason to do that in Tennessee, where the Ds are moderate Rs and the Rs are TEA-hadists. And hack-prone, unverifiable voting machines call the tune.

Vote Basil -- early and often.

20. I don't want someone found guilty by reason of insanity to be able to own a gun or drive a car.

I mean 7 times they threw out his traffic tickets because he's insane? And then what - HE DROVE AWAY? And the crazy guy insists on guns for all? Take that guys gun away now! He's been proven insane.
