John Kyl fakes AZ crime stats on illegal immigrants

Though his seat is not at stake in the mid-term elections, John Kyl is in full campaign mode. In his dual role as a Republican Congressional leader and junior Senator from the SB 1070 state, just parroting GOP mantra on illegal immigration doesn’t go far enough. John is compelled to support his stand with some awful statistics about crime in Arizona. And if he can’t find any, he’ll just make some up.

Appearing over the weekend on Face the Nation, Sen. Kyl insisted that an Arizona crime wave is being caused by a flood of illegal immigrants. He went so far as to claim Phoenix was "the kidnapping capital of the U.S." That’s two obvious lies wrapped around some misinformation; nice work, John.

Arizona’s crime rate and its rate of violent crime have actually declined for several consecutive years, and PolitiFact berated Arizona's John McCain on the kidnapping fabrication, pointing out that their numbers are also falling. But there is still the embedded lie – that illegals are flooding into America.
