Brewer to appeal ruling
Source: Politico

Arizona GOP Gov. Jan Brewer quickly announced Wednesday that the state will appeal a federal judge’s ruling striking down key portions of Arizona’s immigration law.

“This fight is far from over,” Brewer said in a statement. “In fact, it is just the beginning, and at the end of what is certain to be a long legal struggle, Arizona will prevail in its right to protect our citizens. I am deeply grateful for the overwhelmingly support we have received from across our nation in our efforts to defend against the failures of the federal government.”

“I have consulted with my legal counsel about our next steps," she said. "We will take a close look at every single element Judge Bolton removed from the law, and we will soon file an expedited appeal at the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit."

U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton sided with much of the Justice Department’s contention that the Arizona law would interfere the federal government’s function of enforcing immigration law.

1. It's always nice to have "overwhelmingly support"
But, Gov. Brewer, you still have an 'injunctionly' law.

5. This great
Let Brewer take it to the Supreme Court - The judge checked the way the Supreme Court voted in the past, if they vote differently when this hits the court than we know the Roberts is bought out by the lobbyists. Of course we know they are bought out.

Sheriff Joe is ready to defy the rulings of today. He is going to do sweeps tomorrow and will arrest anyone who gets in his way. MF

7. Sheriff Joe should take note of the fact that the non-permit
concealed carry law goes into effect tomorrow, while most of 1070 does not. He may wish to use additional caution. Some of those brown people he hates so may well be armed. Legally armed.

11. Not possible
considering it's not legal for an illegal to purchase or receive transfer of a firearm.

an "illegal". He said "brown people".

17. Except that the law in question relates to illegals
Arapaio's enforcement relates to illegals. The whole discussion is about illegals.

The poster's use of "Brown people" is the usual snark, and not an attempt at rationality. An American that's armed (Legally and appropriately) is highly unlikely to seek out and open fire on a Sheriff.

18. Considering
that I live in state that searches Hispanic vehicles 2.5 times more than whites getting caught with contraband more often so it is not out of the question that "brown people" meaning citizens will be affected. Also see Chandler Round-Up to see that this is not some made up fear citizens are protesting this and leaving the state in droves.

I'm not going to get into the concealed law or that. I was addressing the "brown people" comment that you mistook to mean "illegal". I just simply pointed out what he meant.

15. Uh, you think all "brown" people in AZ are illegals?
Edited on Wed Jul-28-10 03:58 PM by MineralMan
How silly. I was born there. There have been US citizens of Mexican descent living in Arizona since forever. Lots and lots of them. Why do you suppose so many place names in Arizona are in Spanish?

How funny. No, I'm assuming that those armed people, along with most of the people who protest this law are going to be US Citizens. The illegals will be afraid to show up, as is only natural.

Funny post, I think...

19.  I am working hard and paying for Terry but I wouldn't bet on it.
Edited on Wed Jul-28-10 04:18 PM by saracat
Seems both State and National Dems don't give a damn about the Arizona Dem candidates. We were good to take the money from and send it to other states when we were the wealthiest state party in the nation but they aren't sufficiently interested in us to really do any work to get the Local Democratic candidates elected. Terry is running as "clean elections' candidate so there is no pot of gold for the national party in supporting him. We have a few state candidates that are running traditionally and have raised big bucks and the party is marginally interested in them in order to get their hands in their pockets.

20. Moved back to AZ in June
Edited on Wed Jul-28-10 04:39 PM by Whoa_Nelly
Have lived here off and on for many years, and am glad to be back because there is so much I love about the desert, and especially the Tucson area where I grew up.

Am hoping Brewer continues to ratchet up so much that people get upset about the way she's spending state tax money to get her way. Unfortunately, there are a lot of tea party idiots around here, more crazy than the rabid repugs have seen in the past.

Don't know how things will pan out, but will be voting in November for the Dem ticket..as always :)

..and if I can get a job soon, will donate to Terry...until then, am too broke :(

22.  It is time for a makeover
The democrats need to unite now more than ever in order to rid this state of all the carpetbaggers in official places such as the governor chair, both united states senators and that public disgrace state senator pearce.None of the elected state or national official were born in arizona, all of them should be deported back to their states of birth,oh yes send McCain back to the canal zone in Panama.

23.  Meant to say "praying for, not "paying for"! LOL. You can't donate anything to Terry
except "time" as he is a "Clean elections" candidate and the time to contribute is over. At the moment I am really angry at those dems but locally and nationally who aren't bothering to support Terry. Hre is a really good man, an honest man , and he has done more for Arizona than practically anyone. He deserves support and he deserves to win. And with the consistant efforts he and his familly have made contributing to absolutely every Democratic cause, the Democratic party OWES him.

6. You go, Brewer.
Waste some more of the AZ taxpayers' money. I'm sure they'll appreciated that a lot. You'll lose miserably, and the Appeals Court will probably let the injunctions stand, since the case will be coming up in Federal court anyhow. The injunctions harm nobody, which is the only reason they would be canceled by the appeals court. There's no hurry. No hurry at all.

You'll have plenty of time to waste more of AZ taxpayers' dollars. They'll love ya for it! So, you go!

8. Brewer doesn't care the $ amount
she is just interested in supporting the loonies here to get votes. Of course the profit prison system will help her out. I will be making phone calls. I want to know exactly the dollars being spent. I don't want my tax money going for her ego and the nazis here.

10. I understand. I feel very bad for Arizona Democrats. I was born
in Superior, and have spent a lot of time in Arizona, since my grandparents lived there until they died in the 1960s. It's a beautiful state. I hope you can pull out of this mess and rebuild something there.

26. This from the unelected governor of Arizona
(God DAMN YOU, Janet Napolitano!)

Who was slipping in the polls until she signed this execrable, neo-nazi piece of shit law...

It's a cynical ploy, this bitch doesn't believe a word of her shit...even if she understood it...
