BP boss Hayward says he was 'demonised' over oil spill
Source: BBC

The outgoing boss of BP believes he was "demonised and vilified" over the firm's Gulf of Mexico oil spill crisis.

But chief executive Tony Hayward - who is to leave the top job in October - accepted that the firm could not move on with him at the helm.

SNIP...

"This is a very sad day for me personally," Mr Hayward told reporters.

"Whether it is fair or unfair is not the point. I became the public face and was demonised and vilified.

1. The buck stopped with you, Tony
and you headed the most incredibly poorly managed oil company out there, concentrating on shaving every penny you could off expenses by compromising safety and abandoning the practices that had kept other wells safer.

Tony, you're a monster. I hope you run into a lot of people during your opulent retirement who lost property and business investment on the Gulf.

You deserve to be humiliated in public at least once a day.

They are vile.

He can get a sack of cash out of the bank and go fuck it. Maybe that will assuage his deep hurt.

I mean, look at the way Charlie Manson was demonised and vilified over a few dead people, too.

People can be so unreasonable sometimes.

15. I'm sure he thinks it's all very unfair
He no doubt thinks BP did nothing wrong, and that he did nothing wrong. He's just an honest businessman, ya know? He's only doing this because we force him into it by driving cars, yanno? It's not really his fault. They would have taken more safety precautions if...if..if, the environmentalists had let him. Yeah, that's it. It's everybody else's fault but his.

16. Seriously, Tony? You are still around...? Take your life back and STFU!
Meanwhile, there is still endless amount of work to clean up the mess that your negligence helped create through lobbying and corners cut to bypass the remaining laws that you have not purchased away.

Piss off, Tony!

Almost as sad as that day he killed his own workers in an explosion and flooded the gulf with oil.

20. Where's the accountability for BP's clowns running USA operations in Texas?
*Those* are the guys with operational control that led to the disaster.

Heyward is the CEO but he's at 30,000 feet"managing" things.

These guys need to be held to account:

July 19 (Bloomberg) -- BP Plc’s chief decision maker on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig declined for the second time to give his version of the events that killed 11 workers and triggered the biggest U.S. oil spill in history.

Donald Vidrine, a BP well-site manager, was asked to attend hearings that start today in Kenner, Louisiana, as investigators from the U.S. Coast Guard and Interior Department try to determine what caused the April 20 disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Vidrine declined, citing health problems, said Sue Kerver, a Coast Guard spokeswoman.

If the Justice Department finds the actions taken by Vidrine and another BP well manager, Robert Kaluza, led to the explosion, deaths and spill, they could face criminal charges, four former federal prosecutors said. So could other BP employees and managers at rig owner Transocean Ltd. who approved the decisions.

29. Poor little abused capitalist oil exec
The outgoing boss will be able to claim a pension worth about £600,000 a year when he reaches his 55th birthday. He is currently 53.

Because he has left by mutual consent, the terms of his contract will be honoured, meaning he will also receive a full year's salary plus retain the rights on BP shares which could be worth million of pounds.

Mr Hayward is also likely to retain a role within the company, with BP planning to nominate him as a non-executive director of its Russian joint venture, TNK-BP.

Gulf residents had their lives ruined while poor little Tony feels abused. They are not the ones getting that golden parachute of Tony's.

As Octafish said: How can you not love this guy?
