Pastor Rick Warren Blinded From Eye Burns, in 'Excruciating Pain'

Mega-pastor Rick Warren has sent out a Tweet revealing that he was blinded in an accident that has left him without sight and in "excruciating pain."

The full text of the Tweet is all that is known for now:

"My eyes were severely burned by a toxic poison. Hospitalized Mon. Excruciating pain. Now home. Pray my sight loss is restored"

Little else is known about the condition of the globe-trotting evangelical leader, though it appears he is near his home in Southern California, where he pastors the Saddleback mega-church that he founded 30 years ago.

However, it seems strange that the news comes out as a tweet. Considering he probably has a secretary or some sort of staff person who could issue a press release.

Edit: I stand corrected (see post #36). However, the way the spokesperson sounded, it was a very mild injury, and there was no real threat to his eyesight. The tweet was written solely for drama.

Warren's spokesman Larry Ross said the sap of a firestick plant got into Warren's eyes when he wiped his brow while gardening. The sap can cause temporary blindness, although Ross said Warren can see.

The 56-year-old pastor was treated overnight and released Tuesday from Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. On Thursday, he sent a message to his Twitter followers asking for their prayers.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

Warren is the author of the multimillion-selling book "Purpose Driven Life," and founder of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest in Orange County."
