New Gallup poll shows support for Democrats ticks up on generic ballot
Source: The Hill

Support for Democrats ticked upward in a generic ballot test against Republicans going into the fall's midterm elections.

A new Gallup poll released on Monday saw Democrats open up a six-point margin over the GOP, driven in part by a small bump in support by independents.

Forty-nine percent of voters said they'd prefer a Democratic candidate for Congress if this November's midterm election contests were held today, while 43 percent expressed support for a generic Republican candidate.

That support is up from a virtual 47-46 percent tie between Democrats and Republicans in last week's tracking poll, a change that represents the "first statistically significant lead" for Democrats since March, according to Gallup.

1. Maybe it's just the partisan hack in me

but it seems that everytime there is a poll showing a Democratic improvement it's a "tick" everytime the Democrat being polled drops it's a cataclysmic drop in popularity for the poor pathetic Democrat.

This poll found a 5 point shift Dems +2 and Pukes -3, to me that should be called something a little more than a "tick". Shit, I'd even settle for shift or change.

on edit: It sure is nice to see, I think people are seeing the pukes as obstructionist assholes.

3. Yep, R's = minor set back or enthusiastic rise. D's = catastrophic fall or up tick. The
M$M reporting.

8. Probably a combination of the two.
There are people here who only note anti-Democratic bias in the media, but it does go the other way at times (not much of the time).

10. It isn't really even a "tick" - there's almost no change at all.
The real change between this poll and the one they concluded a week earlier is that they shifted from registered voters to "adults."

There's a broad range (-9 to +6) of polling out there from just the last week or so, but the likely voter polls tend to show a 4-9% republican advantage... the registered voter polls polls show a tie to a 4% republican advantage... and the adult polls show a 1-6% lead for democrats.

IOW, if you take just the Gallup poll, this is a small "tick" in the right direction from a month ago, but everything beyond that tick is mere seeming... not substance.

...

And for reference... the Gallup likely voter poll just before the 2008 election showed a 12% lead for Democrats.

4. Power volleys back and forth...
Edited on Tue Jul-20-10 09:51 AM by CoffeeCat
...between Republicans and Democrats---because Americans are so disgruntled with
our government. They believe that the party out of power will rise up and fix everything.
They figure--if we boot out the Dems, the Reps will improve the situation. Then, when the Reps
enact no change, power transitions back to the Dems--and so on and so forth. Promises made.
Promises broken. Corruption only deepens through the years.

I just have to wonder when Americans will finally figure out that both parties are
on the same team--aligned with powerful corporations. Together, these ruling-class
Dems, Republicans and corporate greedmongers are destroying our country and our democracy.

And not a damn thing will change until 90 percent of these corrupt bastards are thrown out.

7. Americans are very very very slow learners IMO and for the most part often don't engage
their brains when they vote. They vote with emotions, propaganda, their hatred of their choice, what their pastor or some TV charlatan told them or the latest gossip they heard and similar.

And as you say, the "ruling-class Dems, Republicans and corporate greed-mongers are destroying our country and our democracy." The majority of citizens are used like pawns in a game for power and profit and are too lame to get it...

So, the majority of the country loses out as the masses squabble over this or that fueled by slick marketing techniques and the M$M carries zillions of dollars away.

Why Americans don't wake up is far beyond me anymore.

6. "tick" = framing the issue in favor of the repukes, as the media usually does

9. Meaningless.
Unless I am mistaken, this is an all inclusive poll. Show me similar gains in likely voters, and I will celebrate. Until then, I will contain my happiness.
