GOP: No more help for jobless, but rich must keep tax cuts
Edited on Thu Jul-15-10 04:32 PM by sabra
Source: McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON -- Republicans almost unanimously oppose spending $33.9 billion for extended unemployment benefits for some 2.5 million people who've lost them, because they say it would increase federal budget deficits.

At the same time, they're pushing a permanent extension of Bush administration tax cuts, especially for the wealthy, which could increase federal budget deficits by trillions of dollars over the next 10 years.

How do they justify this?

"Tax policy is dynamic. If you have the right kind of tax reform, it helps generate a more dynamic economy," said Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which writes tax law. While that may be true, even the Bush Treasury Department concluded that its tax cuts increase budget deficits.

Besides, wouldn't providing $33.9 billion to extend unemployment benefits to 2.5 million people help the economy?

"There's a distinction between taxes and spending," Crapo said. "We have a huge problem with a lack of spending restraint."

6. Notice they never mention cutting the PENTAGON budget!
It's a five sided welfare office for all sorts of arms dealers, most of whom are Republican fat cat contributors.

I wonder what it will take for idiots to realize this party is their deadly enemy? I'd have thought enough brick walls would have fallen on them by now that they'd have noticed.

25. Never
Americans are the most docile people on the planet.

When you steal benefits and pensions from people in countries like Greece or France, at least people have the dignity to flood the streets with protests.

In America, you can take away peoples' jobs, steal their savings, foreclose on their homes, and most people will respond by blaming themselves for not working hard enough.

23. Money for the rich but not the poor (read former middle class)
This guy can't even offer a rational explanation why he believes as he does. That's because there's not a good answer!Double talk and code words is all they offer.

The deficit only seems to matter when the money is going for the common good. If the money goes to the top 1% deficits and debt don't matter. From unemployment insurance to social security the masses are under attack once more.

They want to steal from the poor and give to the rich. They have a record to stand on. I say the the dems tie them to it.

I strongly believe this is the key issue for this year's elections. Dem pols, their spokespeople and their strategists should pound on this inequity day-in and day-out in every venue possible.
