BP lobbied UK over Libyan prisoner transfer case
Source: Reuters

"BP confirmed on Thursday it had lobbied the British government in late 2007 over a Prisoner Transfer Agreement with Libya because it was concerned a slow resolution would impact an offshore drilling deal with Libya . . . 'We were aware that this could have a negative impact on UK commercial interests, including the ratification by the Libyan government of BP's exploration agreement.'"

I'm sure they're just skimming the surface here (so to speak), when it comes to what else BP has gotten up to concerning "UK commercial interests." (Like the whole 'overthrowing the democratic government of Iran' thing, for instance?) Not that I believe for a minute al-Megrahi is really the person behind the bombing, but this is enlightening.

1. Hey shame the Democrats don't take advantage
of this and slam, Barton, Bachmann, Barbour and all the rest who said the US was taking advantage of BP. Also I think if my child or other relative had perished on that plane I would be bombarding each and every republican with comments about their support for this company.

4. That Moammar, he's a real "statesman." Just like Jack Straw.
The Mirror:

"Justice Secretary Jack Straw yesterday admitted Britain and Libya discussed sending home the Lockerbie bomber - amid £15billion oil talks . . . Mr Straw at first wanted Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi barred from any prisoner transfer agreement with Libya.

Mr Straw told Scottish counterpart Kenny MacAskill his 2007 U-turn was in view of 'wider negotiations and... overwhelming interests of the United Kingdom'.

Mr Straw yesterday denied a 'back door deal' to free the dying bomber for oil - and pointed out Scotland released him out of compassion."

Uh huh . . .
