I believe that the attackers, the actual hijackers, were indeed Arab men who believed they were sacrificing themselves for Allah and The Cause. However, I also believe they were manipulated by "friendly" government agencies for a purpose we can only speculate at.

... because the good Rev Fred Phelps said 9-11 was God's punishment of America for homosexuality. You see, it just depends on through which eye of God you happen to be viewing the world. Evangelical Christian, Sunni Muslim, Shiite Muslim, Orthodox Jew, et al ad inifinitum. Few organized religions can claim innocence when it comes to justifying killing in the name of their God. I'll give a pass to Quakers, Mennonites and the Amish, but they're in a very small minority.
