David Shepardson / The Detroit News

Washington -- Toyota Motor Corp. said Friday it will notify customers next week of an interim fix for its planned recall of 600,000 Sienna minivans.

In April, Toyota announced it would recall 600,000 1998-2010 Sienna 2WD minivans to address potential corrosion in the spare tire carrier cable.

Toyota spokesman Brian Lyons said Friday the company would begin sending letters to owners July 19. The company will notify dealers Monday of the plans to tell customers to get an interim inspection of the spare tire carrier cable. If necessary, dealers will relocate the spare tire.

Toyota had been working on a remedy for the last three months. But Lyons said the company still has no timing for when it will have a permanent fix.

1. Maybe they'll drop the price of the Yaris just a little more.
Of course there aren't any recalls out on that model. Nice milage on that car.

3. My old Ford Exploder has one of those winch-up deals for the spare.
I assume this is the same kind of deal, with a cable underneath? I always thought it was darned close to being a clever idea, but mostly a pain in the rear, no pun intended.

I recently bought... well, practically stole an older high-mileage Honda minivan that runs like a top. I must be getting old, I'm enjoying that thing way too much. :D

5. I'll stick to my honda
195,000 miles, engine purrs like kitten (knock wood I'll get 250K+). Civic -- fits 2 dogs comfortably in the back...did the math last week, gets 40+ mpg :D

When replacement time comes, I'll probably trade her in for a used Fit (and maybe add 2 more rescue dogs to the pack, lol)
