APNewsBreak: $500K donated to Ariz. to defend law
Source: AP

By PAUL DAVENPORT

PHOENIX (AP) - Retirees and other residents from all over the country were among those who donated nearly $500,000 to help Arizona defend its immigration enforcement law, with most chipping in $100 or less, according to an analysis of documents obtained Thusday by The Associated Press.

The donations, 88 percent of which came from through the defense fund's website, surged this week after the federal government sued Tuesday to challenge the law. A document from Gov. Jan Brewer's office showed that 7,008 of the 9,057 online contributions submitted by Thursday morning were made in the days following the government's filing.

Website contributions came from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and nearly 2,000 came from within Arizona. Donations ranged from $5 to $2,000, with the vast majority between $10 and $100.

The Arizona law includes a requirement that police enforcing another law must investigate the immigration status of people if there is "reasonable suspicion" to believe the people are in the United States illegally.

2. Pathetic. Exactly like the televangelists who pay for their million dollar mansions with donations
given by people who cannot even afford to buy themselves or their families a good meal.

televangelists and their ministries.

Television and radio ministries were a new way to proselytize to a mass audience starting out nationwide and gradually growing worldwide, taking their message to a variety of cultures and countries that in some cases had never heard of the Christian religion or its message and scriptures. This was a more efficient way to spread the word than the old traveling missionaries who had to journey around the world to proselytize to the masses. These ministers also found that it could bring in a lot of donations from eager donors. These donors wanted a easy way to spirituality, believing it would help forgive their sins and would create a better existence if they gave to God. They also hope to create wealth and protection from poverty and all its damaging side effects. Donors also believed that giving to God would save them from physical and spiritual annihilation, guaranteeing them a place in heaven during the Rapture and war of Armageddon in the future. This made it not only a way to minister to the millions but to raise millions of dollars yearly through their listeners’ hopes and fears. The profits from these early media ministries started a whole new media system, based entirely on the concept of saving souls through television, radio, publishing, and much later the internet. These ministries were based on worship, healing, and salvation through tithing.

6. Among the most pathetic aspects of this is that most probably DON'T have "disposable" income
Edited on Thu Jul-08-10 05:56 PM by abq e streeter
The vast majority were between ten and a hundred dollars. Scared old white racists...yes... and scraping together a few bucks in a desperate attempt to hold on to some imaginary idyllic past that they cling to.

4. No fool like an old fool
So how do we know that all these donations are from old fucks? Did they have to enter their birthday to donate? Hope they all feel up to mowing their own grass, cleaning their own houses and hotel rooms, repairing their houses, busing their own dishes, and all the other shit-jobs that "reasonably suspicious" people do for them.

7. $500,000 won't even cover the discovery phase of the lawsuit

The other millions will be on the back of AZ taxpayers.
