Masked men attack Gaza summer camp
Source: MSNBC.com

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Two dozen masked men vandalized a U.N. summer camp for children in Gaza early Monday, burning and slashing tents, toys and a plastic swimming pool. It was the second such attack in a month.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Islamic extremists have accused the main U.N. aid agency here of corrupting Gaza's youth with its summer program of games, sports and human rights lessons for 250,000 children.

The U.N.'s main competitor in running summer camps is the ruling Islamic militant Hamas movement, which says it reaches some 100,000 children. The Hamas camps teach Islam and military-style marching, along with swimming and horseback riding.

In Monday's attack, about two dozen armed and masked men targeted a seaside camp in central Gaza, one of dozens of U.N. sites across the Palestinian territory.

Hey, I'm critical of both sides over there.

The sad part is that 90% of Israeli Jews and 90% of Palestinian Arabs just want to live their lives, take care of their kids, go about their business. But there's always the asshole contingent, isn't there?

5. I don't think this is a sky genie issue...
This is an issue of a backwards and corrupt culture.

8. But....
But, it uses at least a variant of the "My M.S.G can kick your M.S.G" myth to add veracity, and convince the average joe in the street to play "follow the leader" much better than if the leader merely said "I want that other guy's stuff and want to run that guy's life, and want you to go blow yourself up to help me do that".

7. Look Closely
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Islamic extremists have accused the main U.N. aid agency here of corrupting Gaza's youth with its summer program of games, sports and human rights lessons for 250,000 children.

Apparently Hamas hates real competition, so they they ruin the attendees experience by acting like thugs.

10. Actually it is probably the action of even more radical groups that
are challenging Hamas.

Hamas is the legal authority in Gaza so this type of vigilantism makes Hamas look bad, not good. It makes it look like Hamas cannot provide security or persuade people.

The reality is that the current treatment of Gaza is not making Gaza residents tire of Hamas but looking for even more radical groups - some with connections to AQ - that will take even more radical tract on Islamic issues.

11. Religious extremists are a plague on our planet.
Drop them all onto a deserted island and let them fight it out while we deprogram their children.

12. According to the link in the story...
looks like the UN camp had girls participating. Their own camps(HAMAS), more Madrassa than social camp, it is only boys. HAMAS wants girls to wear headscarves etc.

Good thing the 'humanitarian Gaza-bound fleet' had toys aboard to replace those destroyed in this raid.

14. They are fortunate.
They are fortunate Hamas only cut up their tents. Apparently they don't want anyone messing up their martyrdom recruitment drive. "Camps where kids are just having fun? What nonsense! They probably don't even learn how to put on a dynamite vest there..."
