Protesters Plan Largest Rally Yet Against Toronto G-20 Summit
Source: Bloomberg

Protesters plan to converge at a Toronto park today in their biggest demonstration yet against the Group of 20 meeting of global leaders in Canada’s largest city.

Organizers say the biggest rally may be the “People First” march planned to start at Queen’s Park, site of the Ontario provincial legislature, north of the downtown security zone that encircles the G-20 venue.

Thousands of protesters took to Toronto’s streets yesterday calling for the abolishment of the G-20 and rallying over issues from poverty to women’s rights.

The demonstrators marched in the direction of the fenced-in security zone late in the afternoon before hundreds of police in riot gear confronted and stopped the crowds from continuing south. Five people were arrested yesterday, said Jenn Gearey, a police spokeswoman.

Too bad Canada disarmed the population some years ago
