KABUL, July 31 (Reuters) - U.S. soldiers opened fire on a taxi in Kabul on Thursday, wounding three occupants, police said.

The incident happened in the eastern part of the city on a road leading to bases used by foreign peacekeepers and U.S. forces, Homayoun, a Kabul police officer, told Reuters.

U.S. troops fire on taxi, wound 3 Afghan soldiers

KABUL, July 31 (Reuters) - U.S. soldiers opened fire on a taxi at a checkpoint in Kabul on Thursday, wounding three officers of Afghanistan's fledgling national army, which U.S. forces have been helping to train, police said.

The incident happened in the eastern part of the city on a road leading to bases used by foreign peacekeepers and U.S. forces.

"The taxi failed to stop at a U.S. checkpoint, so the soldiers opened fire," said Ahmad-uddin, a police officer at the scene. "Three officers of the Afghan National Army were wounded."

Ahmad-uddin said the wounded men were taken to a German military hospital for treatment.
