Gov. Charlie Crist tours Pensacola Beach: 'It's pretty ugly' (w/ pic)

Streamers of chocolate-colored mats of oil washed up along an eight-mile stretch of Pensacola Beach early Wednesday, presenting what state officials said was the worst show of crude on shore from the gusher 120 miles away.

``It's pretty ugly. There's no question about it,'' said Gov. Charlie Crist, who arrived at the beach expecting to see tar balls, not pools of sticky goo. ``We don't want to take `the sky is falling' attitude about this. We want to clean it up and stay after it and stay after it and we will.''

Just a week ago, Crist walked the same sands along the Pensacola Beach pier with President Barack Obama as they discussed the federal response to the cleanup effort.

This time, Crist was greeted by dozens of cleanup workers, dressed in white hazmat suits and yellow boots, carrying rakes and shovels and plastic bags as they scooped up the mousse-like tar mats before they sunk into the once-white sand.

1. How long can workers in hazmat suits work in the Florida sun?
The heat has got to be brutal in those suits.

3. The heat can be brutal in a wet swimming suit. I can't even
imagine what it is like in one of those suits.

6. They're going to have to modify the hours,
4:30 AM to 1:30 PM should be about it. After that, you're going to have workers dropping from heat stroke. Even better, let them work at night under lights.

Expecting workers to do this stuff in hazmat suits in the hotter parts of the day is simply not realistic, especially when there are alternatives.

Yeah, we need it all cleaned up. No, we don't want people to kill themselves doing it.

10. A landscaper died in a neighbor's yard last week from heatstroke here in Florida

5. Thanks. I don't see how We the People can ever, ever let BP continue when they caused incalculable
damage to our economy and environment.

Moreover I would seize the personal fortunes of all BP investors and use them to help pay the costs of BP's Disaster.

I oppose the gradual morphing of the US toward a corporate state where international corporations control government and make laws with limited liability that legalize the game, "HEADS corporations make obscene profits, TAILS We the People pay all losses".

Call it what it is: "shit-like".
