Pelosi Throws Down -- Won't Consider Senate Doc Fix (Until Jobs Bill Gets A Vote In Senate)
Source: ABC

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi struck a combative tone tonight, rejecting the Medicare "doc fix" passed hastily through the Senate Friday until Senate Republicans allow a vote on jobs measures that have passed through the House.

"I see no reason to pass this inadequate bill until we see jobs legislation coming out of the Senate," said Pelosi in a statement. "House Democrats are saying to Republicans in the Senate: Show us the jobs! (exclamation mark hers)"

Her statement, along with Senate Republicans' unwillingness to pass any legislation that adds to the debt, means that Medicare doctors can expect a 21 percent pay cut when claims that have been held for two weeks start to be processed by Medicare's government administrator on Monday. Senate Democrats could not muster 60 votes twice this week when they considered bills more to Pelosi's liking. They passed the last-minute doc fix bill to avert the 21 percent pay cut to Medicare doctors on Friday afternoon, even as the pay cut was scheduled to take effect.

Pelosi to Senate Republicans: Show Us the Jobs

Washington, D.C.--Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement in response to Senate Republicans' refusal to pass jobs legislation along with the inadequate six months physician payment extension bill:

"The inadequate legislation on physicians' fees that Senate Republicans allowed to pass today is a great disappointment. The House has approved long-term reform that ensures that Medicare patients will have access to quality physicians' services.

"The bill Senate Republicans allowed to pass is not only inadequate with respect to physician fees, but it ignores urgent sections of the House bill to provide jobs. The House has repeatedly sent jobs-creating bills to the Senate since December -- Build America Bonds, small business hiring incentives, and importantly, summer jobs -- and yet Republicans continue to block approval of jobs legislation.

“What is it that Republicans in the Senate and House don't understand about the need for jobs in America?

"I see no reason to pass this inadequate bill until we see jobs legislation coming out of the Senate. House Democrats are saying to Republicans in the Senate: Show us the jobs!"

2. Atta Girl Nancy! She stuck up to Rahm on healthcare...
...to earn my respect. This is another example of her refusing to let the Republicans screw the "small people".

16. She did? Really?
I don't recall Rahm not getting everything he wanted in that bill. What provision didn't Rahm particularly care for?

18. Sorry I can't be more specific. I read an article a couple months ago...
...that reported on Nancy standing up to Rahm when he wanted to scrap everything.

22. She stood up to him right until the moment she caved...
...and allowed the Senate version to become the law of the land, not even insisting on a public option being passed through reconciliation...even though it was part of the original house bill and had majority support in the Senate.

That's what Nancy did...or, rather failed to do.

Impeachment off the table...

Nancy has been a major disappointment.

7. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, please don't
We are a small business, rely heavily on Medicare...Our employees make $30-$40K a year, if they get a 21% cut, it will be all over for everyone.

Our Medicare claims have been on hold for two weeks now...No cash flow, no money for rent and food for our employees (and ourselves really). Medicare holds claims for 14 days as is, so we are already weeks behind on billing :(

So far, we have had no income for any work done in June 2010 - Zero!

8. That is the Point...
Edited on Sat Jun-19-10 11:45 AM by orbitalman
With your dire need, the republicans then are to blame. You and others in the same boat should continue complaining, and heartily. This is what SHOULD move them to get legislation done...but the repugs are so determined to bring the current government down & destroy what's left of our democracy.

They are so juvenile in their thinking that they are not looking down the long road. I think they are commiting suicide for their party; and rightly so. Between them and the tea-baggers, they should extinct themselves into oblivion.

How does that help you right now? I don't think it does. This is the painful part we all feel for what George Bush has done to our country and consequently all that needs to be done.

Edit:
BTW, we have received a 19% cut in our pay beginning June and 23% the year before that without an increase in pay. You are right, it is devastating.

11. I have one person who makes about $1500 a month with us, her rent is $850.00...Another
Single mother who makes $2500 a month, car pmt, rent, food, gas to work...etc. I know she really struggles, I always give them an advance sometime half way into each month...etc. With the new HC law, I wanted to offer everyone health insurance, we looked into it, only 1 employee out of 17 said they can afford to pay their share of the premiums...etc.

14. If she struggles, think of all of the single mothers who take in a lot less than that.
A lot of single mothers would be delighted if they could get anywhere near $2500 a month.

10. So contact your Senator
...and give him/her hell! Nancy Pelosi is looking at the big picture here. Sometimes you have to cause some pain to individuals to make advancements for the country.

And if you want to blame someone, start with the Republicans. Democrats have compromised too much already to these greedy, corporate representatives.
