Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., joined other Capitol Hill Republicans Thursday in angrily condemning an apology made by one of their own, Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas.

Terry told The World-Herald he was “irate” over Barton’s comments. “I don’t know why he felt it was necessary to say anything in defense of BP. There’s nothing defensible about this spill.”

Terry said Republicans are trying to protect those who live and work along the Gulf coast, but Barton’s comments projected the false impression that Republicans are looking out for BP.

“I don’t know what the hell this guy, that Barton was thinking,” Terry said.
