Chrysler invests $300M to build new transmissions in Indiana

Chrysler Group LLC will spend $300 million, its largest investment since emerging from bankruptcy a year ago, to retool two Indiana plants to produce automatic transmissions.

The investment in Chrysler's Indiana Transmission Plant I and Kokomo casting plant is the latest in a string of moves signaling a recovery in the auto industry.

Chrysler's move brings the company's total powertrain investment since 2007 to nearly $1.3 billion, the Auburn Hills automaker said in a statement.

The investment in the Indiana plants, made possible by local tax abatements, will preserve nearly 1,200 jobs, Chrysler said.

1. I think about 300 million should be assessed against Chrysler's Government loan guarantee
Chrysler should build in the United States.

3. i hope they build transmissions that work past a hundred thousand miles.
well maybe the newer models do`t...my 97 intrepid was one of the best cars i`ve ever owned..two trans.. one around 120,000 and a rebuilt at 240,000 or so. the engine was the small v-6 that was bullet proof

4. their belvedere plant maybe getting another multi million building
the germans put close to a billion dollars into rebuilding the production plant and other on site facilities.
