New medical-marijuana regs now law in Colorado
Source: Denver Post

Gov. Bill Ritter signed into law today two bills regulating and legitimizing the state's medical-marijuana industry.

"The companion measures I signed today strike a delicate balance between protecting public safety and respecting the will of the voters," Ritter said in a statement.

The bills — which impose complicated licensing requirements on medical-marijuana dispensaries and crack down on unscrupulous doctors indiscriminately handing out marijuana recommendations — were some of the most high-profile measures passed in the legislature this year.

...

Supporters of the bills say they will professionalize the medical-marijuana industry and make it harder for people to abuse the system. But several prominent medical-marijuana advocates say the rules go too far, will drive marijuana dispensaries out of business and will push patients back into the underground marketplace. A team of lawyers has already begun recruiting potential plaintiffs for lawsuits challenging the laws' constitutionality.

1. I wished I lived in state that was having this debate!
I live in the Bronze Age South (Ga) where there will never even be a discussion about passing a Medical marijuana Law. I suffered a spinal cord injury and I know if I had a safe legal source I could use Marijuana instead of $300 a month pharmaceuticals. Oh well, hopefully I will get to move one day.

2. BOO for Bill
They are only trying to hamstring and defeat marijuana, we've seen this before on other subjects.
FREE
LEGAL
OWN
GROW
USE
Only completely free will do. No regulation. No "licensing".
This is just a front to get rid of marijuana by the same bad actors as always.

3. All eyes will be on California this November. If Ca passes the pot prop........
...........the dominoes will start to fall. It will be a lot messier than the repeal of Prohibition in the 30's, but California is the "big one" that will start the ball rolling.

There is a good possibility that it will not pass. NOBODY in the industry wants it to change.

7. I realize that. I was stating if it does pass. Probably should have............
.............stated that if it doesn't pass it'll be as much a detriment to progress as passage will be to final decriminalization.

Washington State Favors Marijuana Legalization 52% to 35%
By Michael Whitney, Firedoglake - Monday, June 7 2010

A poll released last week by The Washington Poll, a quarterly, nonpartisan effort by the University of Washington, shows that Washington State residents support an initiative that would legalize the possession and use of marijuana.

According to the poll of 1,252 registered voters conducted last month, 52% in Washington State support “removing state civil and criminal penalties for possession or use of marijuana,” with only 35% opposed. The poll’s release did not indicate the position of the other 13%.

11. A very health trend. Hopefully the industry can grow independently of those
moving in on it with their team of lawyers.
