VIRGIN Atlantic today unveiled plans to create 1400 jobs as it announced new routes to Cuba and increased flights to other destinations.

The airline, owned by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, will launch twice-a-week services from Gatwick to Havana in July 2005 and has ordered two more Airbus A340-600 as it prepares to increase frequencies on American, Caribbean, Asian and Far East routes.

The new jobs will include 700 cabin crew and 70 flight-deck positions at Heathrow and Gatwick.

Its not like we need any jobs in the USA, so its a good thing that America (alone) embargoes Cuba and abrogates American travel rights. <sarcasm off>

... because our Bonesman is better than their Bonesman

1. off topic somewhat
But Richard Branson is a total maverick and I really admire what he has done with his business endeavors.

Our country's policies toward the Cuban embargo are about as antiquated as the idea that the world is flat. I believe that Cuba could really be a jewel (by that, I am referring to updated infrastructure, etc., not its physical beauty) in the Caribbean if it weren't for this country's embargo.

2. Hi RT! & welcome
Yes it appears that Cuba is ripe for tourism. Now that the Caribbean cruise ship industry is booming, travelers are running out of holiday destinations. With the wave of retiring boomers just around the corner, Branson may have the timing right.... In the mean time the US will keep it's head in the sand and maintain that the earth is flat..... If only,, they had oil!

3. why? just because it has the highest
literacy rates in the western hemisphere? and a strongly developed social infrastructure? and the largest professional class in the carib-centroamerica region?

THe US embargo during the rapacious 80's and 90's was the best possible thing to happen to Cuba, otherwise it would have gone the way of other nations that the US has driven into the ground in the name of geopolitical security.

Now the time has come to end it, and let Cuba prove to the world it's ability to play in the big leagues.

4. why does Cuba have to prove itself? and why must they play in the big

leagues?

can't they just be themselves?

any country that lets the criminal, bloody hands bushgang in can count on hearing that sucking sound. the sucking up of their countries resources and money by the gang.

that sucking sound is still reverberating over america as the gang hasn't quite finished sucking up all our money.

5. Cuba certainly is familiar
with gangs of thugs running the place, they should be used to it by now.
