Crude still flows in Gulf despite cap on oil gusher
Source: CNN

Venice, Louisiana (CNN) -- BP said it has collected more than 1,800 barrels of oil since placing a cap over its ruptured undersea well, but video taken Saturday still shows a stream of crude escaping into the Gulf of Mexico.
After many failed attempts, BP was able to place the cap on the well and siphon oil Friday from the well to the surface, where it flowed onto the awaiting drill ship Discover Enterprise.
By Friday afternoon, the company said on its website that it had collected 76,020 gallons of oil in the first 12 hours after it put the cap on the well, which is less than 10 percent of the 798,000 gallons of oil federal authorities estimate is pouring into the Gulf daily.
Over the weekend, BP said it planned to shut four vents on top of a containment cap from which oil was still escaping into the ocean.
Company officials said they hoped that closing the vents would greatly reduce the amount of oozing crude.

Why haven't they shut the vents already? This cap is basically doing nothing right now.

1. Because shutting the vents will blow the cap off.

4. Did this increase the amount
of oil flowing into the Gulf? Estimates were a 20% increase...

5. It must have since BP is only collecting less than 10% of the total amount being released

and cutting the pipes was supposed to increase the flow by 20%.

6. Which means that more oil is now getting into the gulf than before they cut the riser...
even with them collecting more of it as well(if they truly are).
