Baghdad Safe Area Is Becoming Less So

BAGHDAD — A recent spate of attacks — including a previously undisclosed mortar strike that killed a Bechtel Corp. subcontractor last Thursday — has pierced the sense of security inside the U.S.-led coalition's well-protected Green Zone.

The Iraqi construction worker, who was working at the San Francisco-based engineering giant's Baghdad compound when insurgents launched a daytime attack last week, is believed to be the first person killed in a shelling of the Green Zone since last fall. In October, a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel died in a rocket attack against the area's Rashid Hotel, where Deputy Defense Secretary Paul D. Wolfowitz was staying.

On Sunday, a U.S. soldier was wounded in a daytime mortar attack that struck close to the Baghdad Convention Center, where coalition officials hold media briefings and many business and aid groups are based.

A week before that, another U.S. soldier was seriously wounded inside the Green Zone — an unknown assailant cut his throat and then escaped.

1. Escalated attacks.
The Insurgency is going to escalate their attacks and most likely make larger ones in July. The US says it is handing over governing to Iraqis July 30. I don't believe that.

6. Iraq-Nam
Its getting to be like Saigon, where dudes on motorcycles throw grenades or shoot someone in the head with a pistol.

ie: someone gets throat slit with knife--assailant escapes?

But according to Congress at "least" Its Safe !!!! </Sarcasm>

7. and I get in trouble for that for mentioning the danger in Baghdad
in a local letter...what horseshit. Does the military really think the families of the soldiers are so damned stupid that we dont know whats going on? do they have some illusion that we are all back here pretending that flowers and roses are being thrown at the soldiers?
How lame!! and Thats what I was told not to write about, not to write about whats going on in Baghdad from a military moms point of view..only to write about Bush in glowing terms and say hooah about my kid..
what horseshit. whats ridiculous is Michael agrees with everything Iwrite.
May Bush rot in hell forever.
I wont stop speaking out.
