Biden Acknowledges Message Lapse on Oil Spill
Source: Reuters

The White House has been deeply involved in the effort to staunch the Gulf of Mexico oil spill from the start but may have made a mistake by failing to communicate effectively about its efforts, Vice President Joe Biden said on Wednesday.

"I think if there's any mistake made (it's) that we haven't communicated clearly enough what the president has done on this oil spill from the beginning," Biden said in the transcript of an interview with PBS' Charlie Rose television show.

"We were there the first day, the first morning after that well ... blew and that platform collapsed. We were in the Oval Office," Biden said. "He mobilized everyone in the White House in the West Wing, made it clear that every single asset of the federal government should be made available."

1. Oh. It was a "Message Lapse"!
No.....it's a F*cking DISASTER/CATASTROPHE!

You can't spin this. It's too big/too real/too all-encompassing for spin.

4. Yep, communication with the citizens of the country would be nice.
I hope they plan on being more open about things in the future.

5. At no time in history has the federal government been the main source of remedy for spills.

How the fuck was Obama supposed to change that overnight? The ONLY thing he's done wrong is not express absolute outrage from the very beginning.

8. Correct! and the fact that his pockets were lined with OIL interests, et al...
prevented/stymied Obama from expressing absolute outrage right from the get-go! Now that is so OBVIOUSLY out-of-hand/out-of-control he can *mutedly* say what a travesty it all is.

He's a tool. Although he might be the best tool us proles are offered in these days.....

How sad is that.

*Know your place*

14. Obama's not capable of being a tool.
He's a hope, not a tool. There's a difference.

17. his pockets weren't "lined" with oil industry money
in his 2008 campaign, BP's contributions amounted to: 0.0125% of his total intake.

10. Whoa.....that's scary.
Although I guess it's better that they laid off the FEMA IT people rather than people who actually *do* things to help people. Oh wait! FEMA has been TOTALLY deconstructed/undermined. It was once (not so long ago) a VERY GOOD organization.

9. WHEN are they gonna get the message about messaging?
I mean, were these people born yesterday? Don't they get how important it is the way you word things, the way you frame issues, the way you get in front of a calamity instead of having it drag you along by the nose and have IT define you instead of the other way around?

WHAT THE FUCK are people like Biden doing? Did he just fall off the turnip truck or something? He's just waking up to the critical issue of messaging and managing public perception? How old is this guy? Isn't he old enough to have been around awhile and to be a grandfather - hell, even a great grandfather? He's never heard of this? In all his years in high-stakes, high-profile national politics, he STILL is only just kinda waking up to the importance of messaging?

For the Love of God! One of the most critical strategies in any war is communications - you make yours the best possible and you do everything you can to subvert, suppress, and disrupt the communications of the enemy. WHO on our side is doing that for us? WHERE is OUR frank luntz? Yeah, George Lakoff - how come nobody of any political clout seems interested in talking to him or bringing him on board as an advisor? Why hasn't he been hired in the White House Communications Office as a senior advisor or assistant press secretary or something?

SHEESH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
