BP alters plan for next attempt to contain oil from Gulf spill
By Times-Picayune Staff
June 01, 2010, 7:57AM

After consulting with Adm. Thad Allen and other federal officials involved in stopping the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, BP announced Tuesday that it has modified its plan for the "lower marine riser package" containment system scheduled to take effect later this week.

Once the LMRP is operational, the hoses and manifold deployed for the "top kill" will be used to take oil and gas from the failed blowout preventer through a separate riser to a vessel on the surface. This enhancement, scheduled to take effect in mid-June, is expected to increase the amount of oil and gas that can be recaptured from the well.

The new free-standing riser will end approximately 300 feet below the surface. From there it will be connected to a containment vessel through a flexible hose. This second enhancement, scheduled to be completed in late June or early July, will allow the system to be disconnected and reconnected during and after a hurricane.

2. Better for BP to get the oil than letting it dump into the ocean
I don't give a rats ass if BP captures the oil or not, so long as they quit poisoning the Gulf of Mexico.

3. Concerned about hurricanes? Such precautions! Hurricanes hardly ever happen.
Go fuck yourselves, BP.

6. I do not understand why so many DUers are against BP collecting the oil. If they can't plug the well
then WTF is wrong with them keeping the oil from getting into the ocean, people?

9. They are not trying to plug the well...
They were never trying to plug the well and have shown that they will try everything else that they can imagine before they finally give up and SEAL the !@#$'in hole.

11. Because they are ignorant sheep.
> I do not understand why so many DUers are against BP collecting the oil.

They are ignorant sheep: trained only to bleat when their TVs say "Bleat!",
to walk to the slaughterhouse when their radios say "Volunteer!" and to be
completely blind to any inconvenient facts that would contradict the daily
propaganda from their puppet-masters.

It can and will be fixed when....

BP figures how to fix it so they can continue producing oil from it.
It could have been covered a month ago but closing off the flow of $$
wasn't an option

10. aren't they already drilling other wells down into this one for the express purpose of
'capping' it with drilling mud and concrete?

12. BP has actually said they would not collect oil from this well.
that it wouldn't be right.

They want the leak stopped as much as anyone. The idea that they're delaying that process to ensure they can collect the oil through this hole seems unlikely.

They're very survival as a company is at stake. Did you notice how their stock value has been plunging around the world? You think in light of that and the ongoing hatred of them this is engendering, they're concerned about making money off the oil from a single pipe?
